ghost-hermione replied to your post “Fact: The more I read about Philippe Égalité the more I actually like...”
I didn't even know about him O.O
... because you haven’t watched Opi’s Marie Antoinette? Four times? ^^
And believe me that’s the only reason how I got to know and then I ended up doing research for my fic, got to the point when I started being kind of passionate about the topic and into a mood of “I would have kicked Robespierre in the face had he not been dead for over 200 years” and well... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
ghost-hermione replied to your post: Okay, I seriously think that my intelligence is...
wait you guys also use “n'est-ce pas”? is that one of these things everyone borrows from the french that I wasn’t aware of?
Yeah, we do. We use an awful lot of “things we’ve stolen from French” ^^ Besides in casual conversation with marloviandevil it turned out that really, a LOT of Polish words are in fact just a Very Abused French ;)
YES MICHAL SZPAK IS MY PERFECT MERCUTIO OMG HE LOOKS SO MUCH LIKE MY DREAM MERCUTIO i do love john eyzen's way of playing mercutio i based my portrayal on him last month :3
Haha, I totally agree! (although without a moustache, I daresay…)That’s great! Was it in the play, or a cosplay? Sounds absolutely lovely!Personally, I’m much more into Hungarian production than the French one, but John Eyzen definitely needs a special appreciation ^^
kira-k replied to your post:I’m actually curious: are there any cross-cultural...
Hungarian doesn’t have genders - not nouns, not in the he/she part. I don’t know how -phobic we are but I’d say way too much. (Or, rather, it is not a phobia, just our general hateful attitude towards everything. I mean, we hate pretty much everybody regardless of gender/sexuality/identity.)
Thanks for the reply and sharing this! I'm pretty sure that there are much more factors influencing the issue (religious, political, historical, economical, general level of assholeness) - it's just interesting to muse whether language is one of these :)
(And besides, after all, if there are no studies on that, I may as well try to use it as a subject of my thesis, one or another, someday.)

Finnish is gender-neutral in the same measure as Hungarian, but the decrease of homophobia did not come about due to a shift towards more neutral language, nor has it had any impact on the grammar. I don’t think you can cause/effect
I'll just edit this reply post, because I don't like a mess on a dash if you'll forgive me ^^"
Yes, I'm pretty sure there is no cause/effect - as I mentioned, there are way too many factors which influence that. But since it has been shown that language does influence way of thinking and perceivng the world in various aspects, I wonder can we include it into a "many factors" list.
I got tagged by @classyhigh5 (sorry for the delay!) and @sosearchingromeo so I might do it, I guess?
Rules: 1. Always repost the rules 2. Answer the questions given by the one who tagged you 3. Give 11 questions 4. Tag 11 people
First, @classyhigh5:
1. If you could go to any fantasy realm where would you go?
It’s a difficult question because hmh, I don’t usually read nice things and most of fantasy realms I can think of are rather terrible places? But maybe the Second Dominion from “Imajica”, after the events from the book?
2. If your life were a movie what would its title be?
“The Tragicomedy of Errors, Terrible Life Choices And Misery”
3. Ice cream or frozen yogurt?
Ice cream! Definitely!
4. What is your favorite flavor?
Chestnuts *Rolls happily* They’re the BEST.
5. Once you retire what will you do with your life?
Uhm, I don’t think I’ll live up to the day when I would need to retire? And even if, I don’t think I’ll have the kind of job which would allow me to be retired? Not with the current Polish retirement policy at least. But I guess I could be “that a little bit crazy-cat aunt with tattoos and motorcycles”? That’d be kind of cool.
6. What mythical animal would you like to be?
A dragon, I love dragons! Though I’m not sure if the one by European or Asian standards.
7. What song do you have constantly stuck in your head?
“Edgar Gets His Heart Broken” from the Steampunk Opera “The Dolls of New Albion”
8. What is your most awkward moment?
My life is full of more major and minor awkward moments, but the most recent one was failing at Polish grammar in Very Important Email (Why do I have to write them in Polish, ughhh, let’s stick to English, it’s easier) and getting it pointed out by the recipient? That was pretty embarrassing.
9. What invention do you think the world needs?
Hoverboards. Definitely Hoverboards.
(But some clean/effective/cheap renewable energy source would be nice too)
10. Have you ever been to the beach?
Ah yes. Can’t say that I’m overly fond of them, usually, but yes, happened. (Though NEVER in Poland. Denmark, Sweden, Spain, Slovenia, Italy, but never in my own country)
11. What is your goal in life?
To become a famous sci-fi writer (pffft). Or at least a good translator...
Now, @sosearchingromeo:
1. What fictional character would you like to be your friend if they became real?
Nanny Ogg from the Disc World! Honestly that would be fun.
2. What pairing do you love to read about?
Atm I’m mostly into Tycutio and Bentycutio. Also, I need more Mozart/Colloredo in my life.
3. What made you create an account on Tumblr?
At first it was just very private to went my depressive feelings. That was dark time when I suffered with depression and anorexia. I abandoned it for a long time, and came back to Tumblr when I was looking for a reasonable resource base of musical-related stuff. And then I got into this fandom <3
4. Did you ever badly wanted something in your life, and what was it?
I often do. VERY badly. Most recent: A whole open-novel of “Things-That-I-Would-Like-To-See-SzPSz-Play-In” written in collaboration with Jane.
5. Did you get it?
Pffft, sadly, nope. I don’t think I will. But maybe parts, at least...?
6. What song do you sing (don’t say you never sing, even if it’s in the shower, there must be something)?
... I may or may not be singing Engel aus Kristall from time to time (No I don’t speak German). And, do random verses from musicals at appropriate occasions count?
7. What country are you from?
Poland - country of nationalists, swearing and vodka.
8. If you were plunged in a fantasy world of your choosing, which world would it be?
It’s similar to question 1 by classyhigh5 so I’ll leave it like that.
9. And who would you want to be paired with?
*Quickly goes through the list of literary crushes* No, actually, they’re mostly terrible people, so noone.
10. If someone were to write a book about you, what genre would you like it to be?
Sci-fi tragicomedy.
11. What would the colour of the cover be?
ALL OF THEM, because I’m serious adult. Such mature and stuff. If I’d have to go for one, that would obviously be aggressive pink.
