    moving  quickly  for  someone  in  heels  going  down  stairs,  elsa  is  at  his  side  in  no  time  flat,  gently  propping  him  up  onto  her  lap.  he  has  a  pulse,  but  definitely  a  fever.  from  her  bag,  she  retrieves  a  sachet  of  strong  smelling  herbs,  gently  holding  them  under  his  nose.

    “ do  me  a  favor  and  please  wake  up.  i  can’t  carry  you. “

    the  door  of  the  small  apartment  opens  on  its  own,  elsa  stepping  through  with  her  arms  full  of  groceries.

    “ i  just  almost  got  into  a  fist  fight  over  the  last  holly  branch  at  the  craft store, “  she  says  from  behind  the  comically  large  brown  paper  bag  in her  arms  as  she  kicks  the  door  shut  without  so  much  as  a  ‘hello’  and  plops  the  bag  onto  the  kitchen  counter,  “ people  have  no  sense  of  god  damn  common  courtesy  these  days,  i  swear. “

    now  her  attention  is  on  ray,  and  she’s  all  smiles,  “ by  the  way,  hi,  i  love  you. “
