Concept of Document Drying
Books and documents having water damages should be carefully handled and kept. How you should salvage them depends upon the humidity percentage in that particular area. There are water moisture meters available in the market for measuring the water that has been absorbed by the books. If any book or document contains less than 7% of the water, then it will be regarded as a dried one. On the other hand, if it is more than 7%, then the book or the document will be regarded as wet and it would be understood that it needs the solution of document drying and restoration as soon as possible.
Generally, the old books and documents are capable of absorbing the 80% of the water of their weight. Even, some of these documents can also absorb more than 200% of the water of their original weight. This is due to the involvement of the higher quality of the proteinaceous compounds during the making of the paper. This reveals that the older books are more capable of absorbing more amount of water and suffer a lot with the water damages. On the other hand, the modern books will absorb at an average of 60% of water in comparison to their original weight.
When starting the process of drying for the books, you should always compute the amount of water that should be removed with the usage of the amount of water they absorb as well as multiply to the book’s original weight. However, professional companies have well understanding about this matter.
