Norwegian flag. This flag belonged to my grand mother, who came to this country shortly after the war with all of her possessions in bag, to start a new life with a man to whom she was engaged but had never met. It sat on top of the TV cabinet in her house, and now it stands in the kitchen of my parent's house. She has now gone, but this flag remains, a symbol of this country to which I feel an inexplicable bond, and of a wonderful, strong, quiet, dignified woman. It reminds me of my roots and maybe my future. Playground. Spennithorne, North Yorkshire, England. Having lived for so long in a city, I am now spending some time in a small village in rural North Yorkshire. In simple terms I like very much the way of life, but photographically, I am finding it challenging. The countryside has a totally different aesthetic and photographic tradition that I am slowly digesting. I've always loved hills, but never felt any desire to photograph them. Maybe now is the time to review that?
