DODO: How did it go?

ARAMINTA: As these things do, I suppose. I doubt that anyone leaving was surprised.

DODO: Did you want to talk?

ARAMINTA: I do. But I don’t know how to word what I’d like to say.

DODO: You could try? And if I don’t understand something, I’ll ask?

ARAMINTA: It’s the show. It’s making me feel bad about myself.

ARAMINTA: I should be so happy. And when I’m not dwelling on things too much, I am. But then I think of all the different contestants, about half a dozen of who seem like they would be so well suited to Lilac, and then everyone else who you could have been happy with instead of me. And I wonder, did you choose wrongly? For yourself, I mean.

DODO: Well, I don’t wonder that.

ARAMINTA: But I do.

DODO: I wish that you wouldn’t.

ARAMINTA: So do I. But I don’t know how to stop.

DODO: But you’re the one who’s out of my league.

ARAMINTA: What?

DODO: What do you mean, ‘what’?

ARAMINTA: I just can’t understand how you could ever think that way.

DODO: Well that makes two of us. I’ve been overshadowed by my brother my whole life. And look at how messed up I’ve been since we got back.

ARAMINTA: Only due to trauma, and you never got a break from it the way we did with the rotations. And Leo’s not one tenth of the person that you are. Sorry, I know that he has his qualities. But he’s so attention-seeking and insecure that he has to try and insert himself into everything - even on your show! 

DODO: [chuckle] He does do that, yeah.

ARAMINTA: You’re confident and generous and selfless enough to share the spotlight with others. Look at how you play football. You know when to take a shot at goal - and when to pass the ball and set up a teammate who’s in a better position. Leo couldn’t spell ‘team’ without a ‘me.’

DODO: ‘Couldn’t spell ‘team’ without a ‘me?’ I’m so saving that for another day.

DODO: Okay, so I understand how you could feel considering - well, just look at my past BCs. And I know how things were with your father. Just because for some plumbed up reason he was incapable of loving you, it doesn’t mean that no one else is.

ARAMINTA: I know.

DODO: But knowing something isn’t the same as believing it, I guess?

ARAMINTA: No. It’s not.

DODO: I know that my mother loves me. And we have a good relationship. But Leo always had her attention growing up. And that was bad enough. I can’t imagine how much things with your father messed with your head. Do you realise how in light of that, it was so brave for you to even apply for the show? To put yourself out there and still have hope that things might work out?

ARAMINTA: I - admittedly - never had much hope. Mostly I wanted to break out of my comfort zone, perhaps learn something about myself, and to make some new friends.

DODO: And you did all those things, and more. And I definitely could have been more discreet.

ARAMINTA: We didn’t have a lot of privacy. And you were just doing your job.

DODO: No, I definitely could have.

ARAMINTA: You had all the decision making power. Well, Leo had all the decision making power. But it’s only through Lilac that I’m beginning to understand just how much stress and pressure that can bring, knowing that the decisions you make could directly impact the happiness of others, or that you would make the wrong choice.

DODO: Yeah, that wasn’t fun. But I was only worried that I would hurt other people. I never worried about choosing you - don’t you see? 

ARAMINTA: I am trying.

DODO: It wasn’t about passion and romance - well, not exclusively. It was about friendship and trust, and who I could see myself with beyond the initial spark. Because that can wax and wane, you know? [dryly] Or so I’ve been told.

ARAMINTA: [weak chuckle] So far I’ve yet to perceive that from you, yes.

DODO: It was about someone who saw and accepted my flaws, and who doesn’t judge me for them but who also doesn’t let me get away with them either - and who will give me the support and space to grow. Someone who’s always striving to be the best version of herself, so that I’m encouraged to do the same too. Someone who I can see the best version of myself in.

DODO: I guess I’ve always wanted to fall in love with my best friend. And now I’ve made a best friend, and she’s also the love of my life.

ARAMINTA: I - thank you. I needed to hear that.

DODO: Anytime.

ARAMINTA: I was wondering if - it’s not that you’re unaffectionate towards me. Lilac’s always joking about just how affectionate you are. But I don’t think there’s such a thing as being told too often for me.

DODO: Oh, challenge accepted. [...] You know, this gorgeous blonde once told me that I gave great hugs.

ARAMINTA: Oh, did she now?

ARAMINTA: I saw that these days, the ‘WowWow Hut’ is functioning as a vacation rental. And what I’m about to suggest may sound strange, but I was wondering if we could go back? Perhaps it may help to make it feel more like it’s ours.

DODO: Or we could make some new Sulani memories while we’re there.

ARAMINTA: I would like that. [...] Could I sit on your knee?

DODO: There’s always space on my knee for you.

ARAMINTA: I think that I should go and see the onset counselor.

DODO: I think that’s a great idea.

ARAMINTA: If I like them, would you want to make an appointment too?

DODO: Yeah, I would.

DODO: Hey, did you know that Watcher Ana once gave me the UNFLIRTY trait?

For context, Minta and Dodo met on a reality tv show where he was the bachelor and she a contestant. So some of their initial courtship mechanics were a little unorthodox, but very colourful 🤭

Rise and shine, everyone! Today we are heading out early to indulge in Aggie’s favourite - well, second favourite (👜) - hobby. Cross-Stitching!  Yes, one sim will be threading their way to a solo date with Lilac.

We’ve been curious to see just how well GOOD traited sim Spencer will get along with our adorable EVIL blorbo Forest, and so far they appear… joined at the hip?

Today’s mentor is Dodo, who is helping out contestants not with stinkiness, but the finer points of fitness. Caden is the first for a private training session, which Spencer does his best to make less private.

(It was Eye of the Tiger that Survivor sang, Spencer, not Pry of the Tiger...)

Cross-Stitch is not sparking joy for everyone. Briar and Giovanna prick their fingers and are forced to take a break, while Spencer dislikes the hobby but perseveres. If he continues his trajectory from the first round then he possibly won’t need the solo date, but damned if he’ll let Caden have it...

...Who for his part is getting rather sick of Spencer’s snooping (why are you so obsessed with him 😉) but manages to produce a NORMAL quality cross-stitch.

Forest appears to have taken Lilac’s critiques from the Strawberry Ceremony to heart and (so far) has been on his best behaviour. He becomes friends with Dodo and attempts some friendliness with Briar, but doesn’t appreciate her mischief interactions.

Giovanna manages to complete her cross-stitch pattern, which sadly is only of POOR quality.

Elsewhere LAZY sim Briar struggles with fitness but completes a nice painting, and even does some cloudgazing with Forest. Does that one look like a flying llama?

Since having Dodo in my save file, it’s become clear to me that he has some kind of telepathic communication with his Watcher, Ana. So here he is yet again dropping his 1001th hint that he wants a nooboo (and who he wants one with).

Eventually it’s Forest who (lest we forget knows the importance of a good skill grind) manages the highest quality work and will go on a date with Lilac tomorrow! Congratulations, Forest. Please consider leaving the autonomous meanness at home this time.

He also discovered that he was a MAKER, so good news all around.

Because the Watcher didn’t cancel Night On the Town and didn’t want sad moodlets from a ruined holiday, we went to the Spice Festival. Forest and Dodo, are you boys twinning?

Yes, we won’t be featured on Hot Ones anytime soon - not even Spencer, who I believe has the SPICE HOUND trait.

Briar shares something else piping hot with Giovanna, while Forest gifts Caden just because - and is strategic enough to make sure he does so right under Araminta’s nose. Her opinions have no bearing on final scores, but having the host anti-shipping you with the bachelorette probably isn’t ideal either.

Finally, it’s time to head back home (and possibly take some Pepto Bismol). As they don’t have to get up early tomorrow and skill-grind (plus have a far more comfortable bed back at Chez Minta), Dodo and Araminta sleep in the woohoo/guest room*.

*No nooboos were made during this stay.

But where are we going in our brand new duds? Why, we are helping out a local business!

Sara Scott needed some more hands on deck, and so to determine who gets a solo date with Lilac, we will be making nectar. And while there is a nectar maker out the front of the house, no sim has autonomously used it, so everyone starts with zilch in the art.

(And who’s this well-turned out fellow? It’s our security personnel Lou Howell, who took Lee’s drama llama behaviour from Round One personally and is even wearing a suit or something like it.)

Avery was the first to get stomping. And as the skill building component of this day, maxed out HANDINESS Lou mentored each contestant. His first student of the day - Pauline - discovers that she actually likes the task.

While he may not have the best vintage of the group, Avery however has acquired something more precious - Araminta’s friendship.

Random townies are not only being especially annoying today, but stealing Sage’s cc hair, so we summon her to deal with it.

Oof - Jerrod does not like handiness, and by the looks of things, even RANCHER Delphine is not exactly enjoying her turn with the nectar maker.

Alongside a hot date (err, some dirty dishes) Sage orders a well earned brew - and continues to send unwanted townies on their way.

I think Sara rather likes her new security cadaver.

Just when I think that Sage has a potential employment opportunity after this show, I spy her hiding in a stall, check her moodlets and yup - she had attempted to swipe something.

In spite of Lou’s alarm, CLUMSY Delphine is taking rather well to handiness, and even manages to level up under his guidance.

Jerrod continues to have a no good day, and by those cc slippers, has not quite grasped the finer points of nectar making either.

I realise that as well as HANDINESS, he dislikes NECTAR MAKING, and thus that expression he had on his face as he arrived was him staring into the void while trying to show no fear.

Pauline’s own bottle of nectar is of NORMAL quality, but being a RANCHER, she gets an embarrassed moodlet over it anyway. However also being a RANCHER, she has an energized moodlet from making it in the first place, so… all things neutral, I guess?

As it’s now Sage’s turn to shine (or something), COMPASSIONATE traited Araminta manages to persuade her out of the toilet stall. In spite of having her spirits bolstered, Sage (like Jerrod) only manages a POOR quality nectar.

Lou suggested to Delphine that they get to know each other a little better, which I refused according to her permissions, so awkward.

(See, this is why I was so insistent on you lot filling out those - otherwise your Sim may have slipped and fallen on some werewolf eggplant 😏. Admittedly there are worse fates.)

However Lou’s a fairly chill sim when not overwhelmed by Fury and quickly got over it.

While Delphine, Avery and Pauline all had NORMAL quality nectar that was worth the same price, Pauline made the highest skill gain - so she gets a date with Lilac!

And look who autonomously shows up after sportsball practice? COOKING non enjoyer Araminta persuades him to tag along to the farm afterwards. So Dodo makes dinner while she tends to the animals.

After dinner friendships continue to bloom - but I think it’s time to send these two back to their own household, don’t you?

LILAC: So this is our first fashion feature where we spotlight a cc creator (or two). Hopefully it won’t be our last, but we know what a flake the Watcher is.

ARAMINTA: She has good intentions.

LILAC: Yeah, and we all know what the road to that Dine Out pack is paved with. Anyway, I don’t think we can entirely blame her for the screencaps this time. Dodo is maxed out on photography, Moschino pack, and this is the best you can do?

ARAMINTA: Quite. I can… understand photographs regularly being ruined by the flash when one is first acquiring the skill. At Level 5, however, the Watcher shouldn’t need to delete over half the captures from her screenshots folder.

LILAC: Plum right she shouldn’t. Anyway. Minta, what do we think of Poppy?

ARAMINTA: Oh I love it - and her! How about you?

LILAC: Well coming from @ice-creamforbreakfast and @surely-sims, I was expecting quality. What I was not expecting was just how versatile this set would be, especially considering that it’s based on a 60’s spy aesthetic. I knew that you’d find things you like but you’re the Pattie Boyd to my Anita Pallenberg. You’re Kensington Gardens while I’m more Haight-Ashbury. But these Daffodil glasses and this turtleneck from the Daphne set? Sweet - I mean, groovy.

ARAMINTA: Well-made clothes stand the test of time, regardless of era.

LILAC: Yeah? And with these two, you know that you’re guaranteed a great product. The Watcher’s downloaded like every single item of theirs to her cc folder.

ARAMINTA: Speaking of versatility, how did you find the cut?

LILAC: Perfect. As a curvier girl, I know that I always look amazing. But the problem is that CAS doesn’t always look amazing on me. This though? Actually does the deity that is Indya Drake justice - and that woman has curves like an Indy 500. The stretch test? These pass.

ARAMINTA: EA, take note. Your favourite item of the set?

LILAC: The Wolfsbane dress. In the black and white palette. And you?

ARAMINTA: The Larkspur dress. Absolutely timeless.

LILAC: And Dodo? I bet I know what yours is.

DODO: The Holly set. But I think I’d like it better on the floor.

ARAMINTA: Really, you should put it in the hamper - oh, Dodo!

LILAC: Well if that isn’t a ringing endorsement, then I don’t know what is. You may get your wish later, Dodo, but for now we’re taking these to the clubs.

DODO: Yeah? Have fun.

ARAMINTA: Oh, do come too!

LILAC: You won’t look out of place. In fact, Rosamund and I put together the perfect ‘fit for your new ‘dirty smelly hippy’ ethos.

DODO: Fantastic.

DODO: And I’m not smelly!

LILAC: Only because you have someone to help you with the soap.

DODO: Yeah, about that. I’ve kind of forgotten and need a reminder?

LILAC: Later, Tarzan. Jane is coming out with me, and so are you.

ARAMINTA: Welcome to the third round of Simply Lilac! And welcome to Ava Landry, first and second round contestant of Mad About Dodo.

AVA: Charmed, I’m sure.

ARAMINTA: Now during your time on the show, you were sent home due to a dice roll, invited back due to a dice roll, then won immunity due to a dice roll-

AVA: And having obtained the highest skill level of anyone in the group, don’t forget.

ARAMINTA: That was quite the spin of fortune’s wheel.

AVA: Yes. [blinks] Oh, I’m sorry - was I expected to elaborate on that? Perhaps in your present little hostessing career, my dear, it may behoove you to ask more overt questions.

ARAMINTA: I shall… take that under advisement. Now as a veteran, what do you suppose the contestants are thinking of each other at this point?

AVA: They shouldn’t.

ARAMINTA: Pardon me?

AVA: They shouldn’t think of other contestants at all, really. It’s only them and Le - and the oh-so-eligible bachelor. All the other details are merely crunchy little stepping stones on your way to wealth - to true love, of course - poppet.

ARAMINTA: And we have to respect that ‘in it to win it’ attitude, don’t we folks?

AVA: You’re not required to do anything with it. It simply exists, regardless of its impact on your precious little feelings.

ARAMINTA: Let’s move on to the scoring. This round is… complex.

AVA: All those maxed out friendship and romance bars, I suppose. And for this… Lilibet.

ARAMINTA: Lilac.

AVA: Whatever. I hardly see what all the fuss is about.

ARAMINTA: Isn’t it fortunate then, that you’re not one of the contestants?

AVA: ...

ARAMINTA: [clears throat] As you said, the maxed out relationship bars is what made scoring so challenging this round. Those who were consistently in the Top Five will therefore receive 15 bonus points each, while those who were among the first three to max out either friendship or romance with Lilac will be rewarded 15 points for first, 10 points for second, and 5 points for third.

AVA: For those who like to get their feelings entangled along with their limbs (ugh), will it be friendship or romance? Or will someone like that drolly sweet little Tartosan thing-

ARAMINTA: Delphine.

AVA: Whatever. If she is to somehow max out romance too? Because let’s face it, sweetling, the bar’s so low that it may as well be in Selvadorada these days…

ARAMINTA: Friendship and romance, if applicable. So if Delphine is the second to max out romance, she will receive 25 points total.

AVA: Truly, they’ll give anything to absolutely anyone these days…

ARAMINTA: Oh look, here’s a table!

AVA: Alright, allow me to act as though I’m someone who actually cares. Friendship and romance are still the same. Skills don’t count, because they’re all talentless little cretins as far as I’m concerned-

ARAMINTA: Because we’re not actively working on skills this round.

AVA: Precisely what I just said - thank you. Compatibility and attraction levels, still worth the same amount of points. Sentiments are the same, et cetera.

ARAMINTA: Correct.

AVA: Oh goody - there’s more. Whims, bonuses and date? I suppose that is my cue to ask you what those fascinating little tidbits are all about.

ARAMINTA: Thank you, Ava! Whims are - for the casual audience back home - those notifications on the bottom left of your Watcher’s screen which typically recycle after a night’s sleep, or appear if your sim is at a specific lot or event, such as ordering food from a stall at the Spice Festival.

AVA: So I’m thinking that if Lavender-

ARAMINTA: Lilac.

AVA: Oh potayto, potahto. Or if any of those positively intriguing little contestants gets any whims during the date, do they count towards points too?

ARAMINTA: Yes. And the bonuses are what we were referring to earlier - if the contestant maxed out either friendship or romance (or both) early on, or if they placed in the Top Five during previous rounds.

AVA: And “date” is all about whether you get a gold, silver or bronze medal?

ARAMINTA: We’re assuming that everyone will have a successful date with Lilac at this point. If the couple achieve all the date goals, minus woohoo-

AVA: You’re not allowing woohoo this round?

ARAMINTA: Woohoo is allowed, but part of having a positive attitude towards it is accepting that not everyone is there yet.

AVA: Missing out one of the few (well, not always - though I shan't name names) positive side effects of having to deal with people, but I suppose you’re right.

ARAMINTA: So if woohoo is the one remaining goal, the date will still count as “complete” and contestants will receive bonus points.

AVA: And how do we know that this so-called ‘Watcher’ will not merely rig things for whoever is the lesser irritant of all these little pixels?

ARAMINTA: Lilac has been instructed to perform three flirtatious interactions with each contestant, and achieve the “socialise” and “sit and talk with your date” goals. After that, full autonomy will take effect. Therefore everything else is down to the two of them.

AVA: Well, won’t that just be the comedy of errors. Oh, hello Not Leo-

ARAMINTA: Dodo.

AVA: Where is your brother today?

DODO: Safe - I mean, somewhere far, far away filming.

AVA: Well, if he’s ever looking for a costar to-

ARAMINTA: And that is our time for today! Tomorrow we will begin with Jerrod’s date, which takes place in a strange locale, somewhere far, far away..
