♔—- A couple of months passed since Loki last saw Set. The Red God disappeared nearly a month before Loki was due to give birth to their first child, Auerelie, but Loki went into labor only a few days after Set’s disappearance. In truth, the mischief maker was prone to early deliveries. Before Set, Loki survived two pregnancy that produced four children in total. Neither of those pregnancies made it to full term, but this time, she truly believed she had a chance to have a normal pregnancy.
In the end, the stress caused her to go into labor early. For a couple of days, she worried about Set, wondered where he’d gone and begged her other friends to help her find him, but after about five days? She finally realized what was happening. Set ran because he couldn’t take the responsibility of having a child, and abandoned Loki while she was 8 months pregnant.
Everything that everyone said about Set turned out to be true and Loki had a hard time digesting that, once again, someone who was supposed to love her, ended up giving no thought to how his actions would impact her.
After her water broke, Auerelie came so quickly that Loki didn’t have time to call for help. She couldn’t get to Thoth or Isis or even Anubis. She’d been home alone in the middle of the day and once the pain set in, there was nothing she could do to go searching for someone who could help her. Instead, she was forced down onto her back where she attempted to birth her child on her own. Unsuccessful, she had to pull herself up from her bed and give birth to her baby while standing. Between the unmuted pain, the shock of how quickly she’d gone into labor and was forced to birth the child, and the blood loss, she hardly had the time to check on Auerelie before she lost consciousness.
Had it not been for Thoth and Isis arriving together to check in on the pregnant goddess, her condition and the child’s condition could have ended up disastrously.
But that had been months ago. Months of still not knowing where Set was and months of a mixture of anger and depression rising to all-time highs. Had it not been for her daughter’s needs, Loki likely would have caved under the crippling emotions that never truly seemed to calm. Auerelie turned out to be an excellent distraction from everything that raged on inside of her. Loki went through the daily motions, more for her baby than for herself.
Tonight, Loki was incredibly on edge. Storms rolled in from the North and lightning rippled through the sky. The rain and the flashing beams of bright light were fine, but the booms of thunder that cracked through the sky? Ever since Loki was a small child, she shied away from the horrible sound that came from the sky. Her daughter didn’t seem to like the cacophony either, as the second thunder cracked, the girl woke and screamed at the top of her lungs.
Loki sat on the couch with her daughter in her arms. While she looked female for the most part, after giving birth, Loki reverted to a state that was somewhere in between female and male. Not that anyone would really be aware of that fact unless that got her naked. Now, however, she sat in little more than a silk robe, the top of the robe loose and pulled open to reveal her swollen breasts. Both of her nipples were hard and perky and she tried desperately to ease one of them into the child’s mouth.
“Shh, darling,” Loki murmured, stroking the infant’s hair as she finally succeeded in getting the child to take her nipple. “I know you’re frightened. I am too, but you’ll feel better once you’ve eaten. I promise.” For a moment, the child indulged in her mother’s milk, but the second another ripple of thunder made itself known, she wailed again, crying in her discomfort. Loki sighed and hushed her again, doing her best to ease the child into eating properly.
At least until a knock sounded at the door. She wasn’t expecting company, but it wasn’t uncommon for some of the Egyptian pantheon to show up to check on her. “Come in!” she called, assuming Thoth or Isis would come through the door. Neither of them she felt any particular embarrassment or shame in front of, so she didn’t both pulling Auerelie away from her breast. “I wasn’t expecting anyone. What are you--” She paused as she looked up, greeted by a stranger rather than a familiar face of one of her friends. Immediately, she pulled her robe closed tight around her and jumped to her feet, holding her baby close to her.
“Who are you?” she asked, though now that she was getting a better look at him, he did look familiar. She’d seen him before, she just couldn’t place where she’d seen him. “And what are you doing in my house?”
