Dog Bite Leaves Permanent Damage
A four-year-old girl was injured in a dog bite attack while visiting friends with her family in 2005. She is now forced to live with a permanent scar on her face that serves as a reminder of the horrific accident.
Ayrika Stasa was attacked by a Black Lab and suffered a severe bite on her cheek measuring nearly 6 inches. The dog bite affected her eyelids, nose, and upper lip.
She was rushed to the emergency room where she underwent surgery. A plastic surgeon repaired the gash on her face and informed her parents that she would have to go through various forms of treatment throughout the healing process.
Ayrika's scars were permanent and the surgeon informed her parents that she may even have to undergo future surgeries. This information became a major part of Ayrika's case for our legal team. The argument was made that, since Ayrika was such a young girl, she was at risk for emotional distress for the rest of her life with such a large scar on her face.
It was also noted in the argument that Ayrika was subject to mental and emotional anguish from the attack. Oftentimes, dog bite victims have a very hard time forgetting the attack and end up having an extreme fear of dogs for the remainder of their life.
The above reasons all contributed the Attorney Charles Boyk's settlement for Ayrika. He was able to have the insurance company pay the policy limit, plus some. She would receive the settlement through installments as part of a structured settlement agreement. Over her lifetime, Ayrika would receive almost $150,000 in damages.
Attorney Boyk was very satisfied with the outcome of this case and was even happier to help the young girl through her difficult time.
