do you have any tips on how to get dogs to stop chasing a cat?
I don't have the most experience with dogs, tbh, but I can say what I would do (and may have to do, depending on the dog my household ends up getting). Start slow, by having the cat within sight, but not accessible and reward calm behavior & ignoring of the cat. Then you can move up to the same thing, with the cat in the room. I would probably have the dog on a leash or something, maybe, so you can control movement more & prevent an actual chase from starting. Reward head turns away from the cat, then relaxed behavior & attention to other things, etc. Puzzle toys with treats or something like that may be useful for this too, to give them something else to focus on. As they do better & better with staying put and ignoring on the leash, you can let them off the leash & go from there with the same rewards, etc. And make sure the cat has areas that aren't accessible to the dogs - trees, other rooms, etc. Child gates can be useful for blocking a room off as a cat-only room to relax in away from the dogs. (Any dogblrs with more experience dealing with this situation and/or dog training, feel free to add more advice!)
