She’d seen them in public before, and in books and magazines. She’d dealt with demons that resembled canines in more ways than one, in fact...but Miyako was fairly sure this was the first time she personally had been in such close proximity to one.

A dog would normally have been of little importance to her, but perhaps her regression in age was affecting her mind as well as her body, because...she wanted to pet it. Just a little. Out of curiosity.

--... but then, what was proper protocol for approaching unfamiliar dogs? Domesticated they may have been, but they were still animals. No sudden movements, perhaps? No eye contact? She’d never received instruction in this area of study, so what on earth...?
