You don't see me talk about it much, but my dad is a Vietnam vet and his role was.... interesting. It's not something he loves to discuss so I don't share his stories. When it comes to war I don't always agree with him, but I damn do I respect what he says and how he says it.
FWIW Both of my grandfathers (and my step-gradfather) fought in WWII, family before that fought in WWI, and I actually qualify as a DAR. The army also saved my step-brother's life, I have friends in it now, and a lot of students here have family members in the armed forces. So my thoughts aren't always in line with a lot of people on tumblr dot com (or in the real world: I almost ended one friendship and definitely ended a hook up buddy thing after discussions about my dad).
