Appearance is something absolute, but reality is not that way – everything is interdependent, not absolute. So that view is very helpful to maintain a peace of mind because the main destroyer of a peaceful mind is anger. – Dalai Lama
As I am throwing back all this Chiangmai, Thailand trips, I am also reflecting on how I need to continue to hold on to good surrounding on placidity with gratitude. Even if it means filtering generic people in your life.
When I arrived to this well known ‘tourist spot’ Hmong Village in Chiangmai, I almost felt how commercial it seemed..yet how can a pretty place be this way? Then I realize, people here also need to make a living. People live here. My people thrive here left behind. And it is not the country alone that has made them into a tourist attraction. In alot of ways, it has helped them with their livelihood and learned of the modern world which the rest of the us come from. Some may find the mix not a good fusion and can destroy culture but how can we be greedy? Isn’t this how
Despite some unpleasantness at first with hagglers, I enjoyed the mini shopping of Knick knacks and such afterwards. The scene especially with its misty terrace in the sky caught my eyes though. Because this village was so up high in the mountains, it felt like I was up in the heavens. The terrace ahead seemed endless and I wanted to take a moment to breath it in for a little longer.
There is one thing I know for sure even before arriving here as little as they may seem to have, they have alot going. Motivation, drive and the simplicity to accept. Where a country I come from, money, greed and control is seemed endless. I realize this traveling can teach alot about life too. Its not just the books that will do so. Experience, understanding and accepting.
Somedays I feel stuck between two worlds when you try to remind yourself not be envious of others as they may be of yours. At the end, I have to know how fortunate life is right now, I am breathing and can feed my kids daily. That is the most important. Nothing else.
