Indian Rupee's emergence as a Global Currency.
The Indian Rupee (INR) has been gaining fame in the global trade scenario as India's growing influence in the economic and geopolitical landscape is helping countries adopt the INR for international trade.
Because the Dollar is stronger than we'd like. Today, most of the trade conducted in the world is done using dollars, even if America is not a party to the transaction!
Moreover, after Russia attacked Ukraine, America was among the first nations to impose crushing sanctions on the economy while freezing Russian dollar deposits!!
This was an eye opener for all countries as several countries are actively looking to reduce their reliance on the Dollar to prevent such an incident.
Why is the Rupee as a Global Currency significant for us?
By increasing the use of the Indian Rupee for exim transactions, we can further integrate our economy with the global economy while creating greater opportunities for trade and commerce. Moreover, it also stabilises the value of the rupee while increasing its recognition and demand on the global trade platform.
How many countries are planning to use it?
Ever since the RBI unveiled the Rupee-Rouble system in July 2022, the RBI has permitted banks from 18 countries to open Vostro accounts for settlement in rupees!!
Moreover, Bangladesh and several African nations are looking to join the rupee settlement system! Bangladesh in particular is in talks with India for an FTA and rupee settlement!!
