Dominika & Tom- One Shot
“Careful! You’re going to drop the cake!” Max yelled as he ran from across the kitchen to catch me before I fell. “You have got to be more careful Dom.” From across the room I caught Tom smirking, as he had been the reason I had tripped in the first place.
I carried the cake out of the kitchen passing by Tom on my way to the living room. “Gotta be more careful babe.” He whispered. He sent chills down my spine, but I kept walking as if nothing was going on. I set the cake on the dining room table and dashed upstairs to finish getting ready for Max’s small birthday party. As I headed upstairs I heard steps behind me. “So are we telling them today or what?” Tom came up behind me and pinned me against the railing, holding me by the waist. He kissed my lips quickly and looked at me.
“I don’t know Tom. I’m not sure how Max will take it.”
“Take what?” I heard a serious, deep voice say from the bottom of the stairs. Tom quickly let go of me and looked down to see Max furiously going up the stairs. I quickly got in between them, mainly holding Max back. “I thought we were mates! That’s my little sister you’re messing with! Get out. NOW!” He yelled. I had never seen Max so angry. As Tom left I tried sneaking upstairs. “And you! How could you go around behind my back with one of me best mates? I’m cancelling this party.”
“No, don’t Max, please! We were planning on telling you and the lads today, but we didn’t know how. I knew you would over react and I just didn’t know how to tell you.”
“How long?”
“Four months.” I said shyly.
“What the hell? Dom, how could you keep this from me?”
“I fell in love with him, Max. It’s just—he was over here so often and I got to know him. I know he’s cheated on previous girlfriends, but he’s been so different with me. Plus, I don’t give a damn what you think. I love him and he loves me and we’re together.” I stormed upstairs and slammed the door to my room. I finished getting ready and headed back downstairs. A couple hours had passed and I hadn’t heard from Tom. I had called him a couple times and sent him text messages, but he wasn’t replying to any of them.
Downstairs I found Nathan and Siva trying to talk to Max. They all looked at me. They knocked on the door and I headed over to open it.
“Wheeeeey.” Jay came in holding a bottle of champagne and some beer. He looked around and his face dropped. “I thought this was a party, not a funeral. What’s going on?” I told him to take a seat and was about to close the door when Tom squeezed through.
“Yeah, what’s going on?” Siva asked looking at Max and then at me. I gave a look to Max and he just looked away. I stood in front of them ready to tell them about Tom and I, when Tom interrupted me as he put an arm around my waist.
“Look mate, I know it bothers you and I should have told you. I should have told all of you that Dom and I are dating, but at first I felt like I was betraying an old mate, which I kind of was. I love her and I know you won’t believe me, but I do. We’ve been dating for four months now, and I know that you may not approve but she’s incredibly. She has the most gorgeous blue eyes, and her personality is just amazing.” He looked at me intently and I couldn’t help but blush as he said this. I looked into his eyes for a second and I could see a sparkle in them, something I had only seen once before.
“All I ask is that you take care of her. If you break her heart, I’ll break you. You’re my best mate and I just wasn’t expecting this from you. I’m sorry Dom, for yelling at you. You’re growing up and if you’re in love, you’re in love. If you ever need to talk or need a shoulder to cry on, I’ll always be right here little sister.” Max came over and hugged me. I looked over at the boys and they nodded in approval.
“You’re like our little sister too. We’re always here, okay?” Siva said looking at me. “You’ll always be our best mate too.” He gave Tom a brotherly hug and Nathan smiled at us.
“Now can we quit with all the soppy talk and get this part started?” Jay said throwing his hands in the air. I looked over at Tom and he smiled. Apart from being a complete ass, sometimes, he could be a total sweetheart and I loved him for that.
