W hat was that? What was going on? Elizabeth had been nothing more than half asleep at that point, when she feels the empty side of her bed dip down, and the soft sounds of breathing much closer than she’d think at this time of night. Her first thought is that she was, once again, being kidnapped by a stranger. Which causes her to grab her hand held mirror off her night stand once she gets her senses together, pointing it in the direction for which she’d thought her intruder sat.
B ut rather than being face to face with a stranger, the noble is instead face to face with the boy she adored most in this world. Witnessing the clearly embarrassed look on his boyish features spread across his face from the pale moonlight that shone from her window. It takes her a few moments to comprehend what was going on, and the fact that her fiance-a boy she won’t be able to marry for quite some bit of time-was sitting right here on her bed, without any given permission to enter her chambers.
E lizabeth felt her cheeks flush a bit at the idea of a boy other than her father or her brother stepping foot in to her room. And although it was highly inappropriate behavior, she knows she’s not able to reprimand him, nor send him away. No, that look he’s giving her, in what she can only assume is that of loneliness, she simply can’t do it. Ciel was to be a guest for the weekend, after all. It would only make everything that much more awkward if she were to reject him right now and having to see his face the next morning. Plus, who was she kidding? He looked much too adorable to not go and try to cuddle with.
F rame shifts a bit in her bed to allow the boy more room next to her side, soon lying herself down and lifting the sheets to her bed with one free hand just a bit so that he would be allowed to crawl under them with her. The other hand delicately grabbing his and pulling her beloved down so he could actually relax. A gentle smile soon gracing tired features as she began to whisper.
‘ I’m not entirely sure as to why you’ve wished to keep me company this evening Ciel, but fret not; if you’re scared, I’d be more than happy to let you stay and hold you until you are scared no more, ‘ the blonde starts, the hand holding her sheets soon going and drifting to his features. Pushing his hair back to keep it away from the one eye he lets the world see. ‘ And don’t worry; Paula knows that I rise without any assistance in the morning. So you can leave whenever you feel comfortable to in the morning, okay, Ciel?~ ‘
As the girl made a sudden movement, Ciel stumbled back, afraid of being struck by a candlelabrum or worse yet, a sword hidden somewhere. Lady Elizabeth would not betsow her anger upon him without a good reason - and those have been few and far between, luckily - but Ciel knew that the danger of being assaulted in the dead of night was very real to anyone related to the Phantomhives.
“Lizzie, it’s just me!” he hurried to say and covered he girl’s mouth briefly withthe palm of his hand so she would not scream in delight or in shock, or worse yet, squeal in excitement and alert her mother, Ciel’s aunt Lady Midford. It was not exactly polite of him, especially when the girl was in, well, her nightgown and quite vulnerable and defenseless, as much as a Midford could be, fencing skills considered, but he needed the situation to calm.
He let her go eventually, feeling the heat rise to his cheeks. Yes, he could have used some manners when entering a lady’s room unnoticed and uninvited. He could not decide whether to be surprised or cautiously pleased that she seemed happy to see him regardless. Well, better him than a kidnapper.
Ciel felt even less like a criminal as Elizabeth lifted her covers as if to invite him in. He had been hoping to talk some, but was it not quite appropriate of him to... just... lay his body in a... girl’s... bed. It was the place Elizabeth slept in, for devil’s sake, and probably warm after she had been laying there for hours!
But a gentle hand took his own and pulled him in. He could not help but comply, feeling hotter in the cheeks than he ever had, and that said something about a boy with constant fevers.
“If your mother finds out,” he stammered awkwardly and stepped out of his slippers, leaving the dressing gown over his pajamas intact, “we are both going to get an earful.”
Elizabeth, however, seemed to be without a worry, stroking his hair carelessly like it was the most natural thing in the world. Ciel worried about his eyepatch coming loose in the process, so he could only hope that Elizabeth’s curiosity regarding his right eye had been satiated ages ago. Worry and an odd, almost foreign sense of peace were fighting for dominance in his ever so busy mind.
“I was not scared,” he lied. Confessing another nightmare to Sebastian in the Midford manor would have been embarrassing. Besides, the devil could do nothing but sneer and mock. He had felt better off by having a walk, and Elizabeth’s quarters were where this feet had led him. “I needed some fresh air and ended up here. That is all there is to it.”
