The Different Stages of Physical Hurt
Trigger warnings: self harm, angst, some gay shit I guess.
He folded the blade back into his pocket knife, pulling his pant legs back down to his ankles before standing. His thighs felt hot all over, like someone was holding a heat lamp behind the skin. It was sort of pleasant, actually.
Slowly, carefully, he opened the bathroom door, peeking out to make sure he hadn't woken Callum. He breathed a sigh of relief when he saw his partner still sound asleep in their bed. Holding his breath, he tiptoed across the room to the door. A loud creak moaned from the floor beneath his feet and he froze, looking over at Callum. He didn't move.
He made it the rest of the way to the door, twisting the handle quietly to let himself out. Then the hinges practically roared.
"Dom?" Callum asked sluggishly. "Why are you up, baby?"
"Uh, just getting a glass of water," he replied in a whisper. "Go back to sleep."
His legs were striped with cold now. Stripes of a chilly, tingling sensation all over his thighs.
"Is everything okay, hun," Cal said, catching something off in his boyfriend's voice.
"What? Yes, I'm fine-" Dominic started, but pressed his lips together as Callum slid out of bed.
"Dommie, please," Cal begged, wrapping his arms around his partner's waist and holding the shorter man's body against his own.
"It's honestly nothing. I'm just hungry-" Dom cut himself off with a hiss as the cold stripes on his legs began to sting. Callum's brown eyes widened and he picked Dominic up, setting him on the bed and pulling off his pants before the he could protest. Cal sucked in a pained breath when he turned on the light.
Dom's thighs were littered with cuts and scars. Some wounds were gashes, others just slices, some fresh, some scabbed over. The scars bubbled across Dom's thick legs, marring his tanned flesh with pinkish lines.
"Baby...," Cal breathed. "Oh baby, why?"
Dom shook his head, tears spilling down his face. He hugged himself tight, burying his face into the collar of his turtleneck.
"Did I do something to you? Did someone else do something to you? Are you lonely? Are yo-"
"No. No, I'm not," Dominic sniffled, cutting him off. "It's because of me."
"I'm overweight, I'm antisocial, I don't like physical contact, I'm hardly there for you..." Dom trailed off, more tears splattering onto his lap and stinging the cuts.
"One," Cal started. "You are not overweight. You're thicc and you know I love it."
Dominic stared at his boyfriend in disbelief.
"Two," he continued. "I'm fine with you being antisocial. More of you for me.
"Three. I don't care if you don't like touching people because that means I get to touch you more than anyone else."
Dominic was blushing and crying at the same time now.
"And four. You are always there for me. I cannot remember one time where I was having a bad day and you didn't do everything you could to make me feel better." Callum delicately pulled Dom into a hug, careful to not touch his legs for fear of hurting him. "And I love you."
Dominic was full on bawling now, pressing his face into Cal's undershirt-covered chest and hugging the bigger man tight.
"Thank you," he sobbed. "Thank you so much, I love you, too."
