a small box littered the door way to his apartment, one of a simple size nothing to large, wrapped in a sea of blue with a bow of white resting upon the top. simple card tucked underneath a stand with the words" happy birthday captain rogers. " written elegantly upon, inside the box rested a few graphite pencils, charcoals and chalks, accompanied by a sketch book or two. a simple gift to the artistic side of the solider. ( why because death sucks at giving gifts but he tries )

Another knock on his door and Steve started to think no onehad gotten his message. It had nothing to do with him beingunappreciative; he was. He just felt that there was no need to doanything for his birthday. Not when he technically should've diedduring the war. It seemed like everyone else thought otherwise, andopening the door the box in front of his door was unlike the lastone. Whomever left this understood a little about subtlety. Pickingit up, the handwriting wasn't something he recognised and it onlyserved to pique his curiosity.  He removed the wrapping and grabbed aknife to undo the tape on the box. What was inside caught him bysurprise. Many knew he was an artist before the war. Even now hetried to sketch but his inspiration had been lacking. Whoever sentthis must've known something he hadn't. And he would forever begrateful for this gift. If they had to give him something this wasthe best thing to give him.
