Koichi's Willy Wonka: Compilation of designers' commentary (summarised)

The stick is peppero dipped in chocolate sauce. And the idea of WonKo's hat is it's made of chocolate and melts on him as he's wearing it, with the necklace being dips of gummy candies. Even the buttons for WonKo's coat is made with the idea of the rubies as candies. With dots and stripes to create an illusion to the viewer, a potrayal of eccentric WonKo with hidden personality

The idea for WonKo's nails is also similar, made of chocolate (+probably candies) that some melts as he's wearing it.

The pants-boot design was put in consideration to give best comfort when it comes to dancing even with heels, with the stripes to create even more dazzling illusion as the actor dances.

Imaginative, genius, and the Master of Sweets.

That is Sho's view on Willy Wonka after reading and watching the movies several times, which in a fashion sense will be seen to create funky and crazy visual. That's when he decided to add huge bow tie to Wonka's image. Sho later added a fine detail on the bow tie, which is the dots, to create this image of darkness and light as per Wonka's mysterious image. He stated his experience of sketching and creating the outfits "as if writing a poem about the character" ✍️🏻

"Even after 25 years, our style remains the same"

How did the new song 'The Story of Us' is born?

We both casually came up with the words, and made it together while tapping the machines and keyboard. Since the order (theme) is set to be "cheer song" from the beginning, the path is clear already. However, it's actually hard to create "cheer song" in this Corona era. After all, everyone has been doing their best already ne. During the peaceful days, anyone can challenge for a bright future if they have the spirit, but that's not the case anymore. That's why we chose the words and write the lyrics while thinking "what is the best way to snuggle up to each of the listeners' wound without leaving anyone behind?".

For 25 years since debut, is there any changes in the way you deal with KinKi Kids in terms of work?

Nothing ever change. Johnny-san have clearly said,"When doing something on your own, don't turn it into an extension of two people". So when we are together, we will look for something that only the two of us can offer. And when we work independently, we will work on something that we can only find on our own. That style will never change.

The first edition includes the covers of 'Goodbye Countdown' by Shonentai and '…。' by 光GENJI. What did you feel when singing senpai songs?

They were songs we sang on stage several times before our official debut. As music itself is like a time machine, even when I sing it now the images of that day come back to me, and I get to see who I was back then. "Ah, that's why I love music," it somehow came back to me. During the recording, we sang this song to express our gratitude to senpaitachi who have been walking infront of us with their strong back shown to us.

If you can talk to yourself from the debut days, what do you want to tell him?

"People will say whatever they want. People might barely able to see the real you. But, as long as you live the way you are, it'll be fine." That's what I want to tell. Ever since back then, I don't like to gloss over myself just to be more presentable, and I can't do it. There were times I clashed with others, and slowly grew tired that I ended up thinking "It is better to say nothing".  From then on, I began to lose my actual self. Since the time keep changing and I was still young, I didn't have the courage nor strength to face it that I was troubled and hurt. That's why I want to tell myself from back then "You'll be fine as long as you live as yourself, just do your best".

Lastly, what kind of year would you like 2023 to be?

Last year, I was very happy to receive apparel-related job. It was refreshing to challenge the world I never knew and meeting the new me, and I hope I can meet myself the same way this year. Surely everyone has been looking up on what to do or what to be in the past two years. But the pandemic arrived and everything collapsed. Nobody would've expected there'll be a time when the future is unforeseeable. Just like the yell to my past self just now, I think, the most important thing for everyone right now is to live as their own selves. For me, to live in your own love, as long as you don't forget the love, you'll be lead to the lovely people and the moments. I want to spend this year while cherishing that feeling.
