Chente being one furred up Mexican
I saw that you were from Mexico so I wanted to know what you thought about Vicente Fernandez and his passing. He's a very big icon for us Mexicans of course but I wanted to know your thoughts and maybe favorite songs. (just curious)
Ah yes, Mexico is truly grieving him right now.
My mom was always such a huge fan of him and she always played his music while I was growing up so I have those memories of listening to him all the time around the house. Some of the songs that stuck most to me are;
“ La Llamada”
“Como Amigos”
“Aca Entre Nos”
“De Qué Manera Te Olvido”
I didn’t listen to him nearly as much as she did but these are some of my favorite songs of his :). ❤️
I also think it’s bittersweet that he passed on La Virgen De Guadalupe’s birthday since he always used to sing the mañanitas to her & was such an avid believer of her.
Confession time...
On our first two trips, we were not aiming for the friendly taco stands of Recker Hwy. We were in fact trying to get to Don Chente on Snively Ave, just East of Hwy 17. Well, we finally made it; which was quite a feat considering their hours! (They close at six on weekdays, and don’t bother to open at all on Sundays... actually, we can’t really fault them for that.)
Anyhow, on to the tacos... Grease is the word! But, oddly, not a bad word in this case. True, the pork tacos were greasy, but they were hot and delicious! They came with the usual onion and cilantro, with lime on the side; they came double wrapped witch is good in light of all the grease; honestly, these things could have been triple wrapped there was so much grease! But again, not a bad thing!
Now on to the bad... six for six dollars. Making them a dollar each. Not a bad price, until you consider that they used to be six for five dollars. Not sure what they did to deserve a 20% raise, but it must have been something! The chicken tacos are still the old price, but it is the suspicion of Dos Locos that that is only the case so as to keep the large 6 for $5 sign from being a liar!
Bottom line, we were disappointed in the price only because we were expecting something better, but the tacos were solid!
