Don Newcombe (center), who posted a 56-28 record his first three years with the Dodgers, will miss the next two seasons when he is sworn into the Army to serve in the Korean War. The 26-year-old right-hander struggles upon his return in 1954, but he returns to form the following season with a 20-5 record, helping the team to capture their only world championship while playing in Brooklyn.
