Don Reno
Don Reno & Red Smiley - Country Boy Rock ‘n Roll
Yee-haw, amen, and kick it on down the road.
Song Review: Billy Strings - “Unwanted Love” (String the Halls)
Billy Strings is back on the fake television for the third day of bluegrass.
Don Reno and Arthur Lee Smiley‘s “Unwanted Love” is his latest String the Halls charity video benefitting Musically Fed, Nashville Rescue Mission and Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee and finds the guitarist and his band conjuring that old-time feeling once again. He takes a short solo, but while there’s nothing to indicate how he typically comports himself in his night job, it tells you everything about what motivated Strings to pick up a guitar in the first place.
Read about the first two days of bluegrass here.

A post to mark the passing of Eric Weissberg, best known for his banjo playing on the “Dueling Banjos” recording used in the film Deliverance, which made it to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Here he is performing the song with guitarist Steve Mandell. Obituary

This 1976 collection has a couple tunes on it that were not in my collection so I ripped it the other day. 16 song in all. The Bluegrass Hall Of Fame.
Enjoy!
In 1972 Reno & Smiley released this collection of songs titled “Last Time Together”. Although primitive stereo with vocals on one channel and instruments on the other this was pretty rare to be able to take 1963 recordings and reissue these original recordings.
Enjoy!
In 1971 Reno - Smiley and Bill Harrell released Letter Edged In Black.
A little slower, more ballad like feel than a lot of Reno’s other things.
Enjoy!
In 1976 Don Reno, Bill Harrell and the Tennessee Cutups released Bicentennial Bluegrass. For some reason Bills vocals come out a little grainy on the digital transfer that I have. But it is still a very fine example of what Reno & Harrell were doing in those days.
Enjoy!
