I got home, right, and we went to Easter dinner, and then came home and napped, and then Dude got up and earnestly made a crock pot full of chili using a completely foreign recipe that hadn’t been in our repertoire before, and it was all vaguely puzzling, and now we have a lot of chili. But he has never done that before, I realized-- he does a lot of cooking, but this-- he did the browning of things the night before, then got up early Monday morning and assembled the rest of everything in the crock pot before starting work for the day, and my god, I’ve lived with him since 2002 and he’s never done that before. It was... it was weird.

If he were a pod-person, speaking theoretically, I mean-- I’ve known him since 2001, it’s not like... like I’d... miss that, right? But I was away for a week and anything could have happened in that time. There could be some sort of larval psychic entity wearing his skin like a suit, and I might not realize it.

But I don’t think that crock pot chili is the way that a larval psychic entity would use a Dude suit on its first go, would it? I mean...

I don’t know. I can’t pretend to understand how an alien would think, in this case. But it’s going to haunt me a little bit.
