There was a rehearsal taking place in the Manor. William wasn't too focused on the details. All he cared about was the fact that whatever work had been scheduled would need to be postponed as he was roped into helping Chef and the butler keep the reputation of the Manor up.

Somehow, this resulted in William playing the role of a corpse for an hour.

Just when the soldier was finally starting to lose the battle of staying awake, a foot nudged him and prompted him to sit up with a 'Hey'.

That tone was one that caught William's curiosity.

"Well? What did I miss while I was doing my award-winning performance of a corpse?"

It was late. No one should have been in the building where the District Attorney was situated, yet footsteps echoed off the freshly washed tiles. Louise's office was open, a reluctant late evening following a trial that lasted far too long.

Before she could leave, one more visitor had arrived. How could anyone forget the sight of the Colonel when he stood a head taller than most? Not even the slight slump deterred from it. Unseen pupils watched her for a moment, as though waiting to see what she would say or do. It wasn't like most believed in the dead. Speaking of...

"Mark isn't dead. I wouldn't cross his path if you see him."

It was late in the evening when footsteps could be heard in the backstage area. Some performance had taken place earlier that day, a 'tribute' to the fallen actor who was taken 'in his prime'.

Liam scoffed as he tore down one of the backstage running orders taped to the wall. They didn't realise what a waste it all was, and that was why he was here. The quicker he could find Kitty, have her use those seer powers to serve as a starting point for this hunt, the quicker he could leave this blasted place.

Fortunately, it didn't seem like he needed to wait for too long. Their paths crossed. The former soldier's head tilted slightly to look down on her, assuming the pupils were looking at her to begin with. With darkened eyes, his face was as hard to read as it used to be when he wore glasses.

"Kitty." Though his voice was as low as it always had been, it sounded weaker, hoarser. "I need you to scry for Mark. Give me a location for him."

Now that was strange. Not only was the murderer who supposedly was killed standing here, he was also asking her to use the skills he used to tease her for?

This... Was not supposed to happen.

Liam had only returned to the ruins of the Manor because he had forgotten his blasted glasses. There were nowhere to be seen, and all he could think of was that someone had stolen them when scouring the charred remains for loot to sell. They were distinctive, after all. Anyone would have known they belonged to the disgraced Colonel.

But what he didn't expect was that someone had returned to the grounds, presumably to try and pay respects. And it was Harper. Out of everyone Liam had the misfortune to cross paths with... Why did it have to be them?

The one person who lost the most that weekend. The only one who suffered needlessly. Liam had managed to escape interactions before but this time... It wasn't as easy to escape. He couldn't simply waft by like a ghost who was unaware of the living.

"... You look like shit." A fitting greeting from the dead man.

The scene was drawing to a close in another story. What a success! The Hero was truly one that was adored! Look how grateful everyone was to be saved by Mark!

But something wasn't quite right. The 'evil' of this story was merely someone in the story. The true villain... He was nowhere to be found.

Then again, he still wasn't perfect for the role. The former soldier lacked the tension of a villain. He wasn't too keen on speeches. He didn't want to draw out a moment to bring out its full potential. He was still far too blunt. So with the story that had just happened... Maybe it would have been ruined if the villain had bothered turning up.

Speaking of...

It seemed Mark was no longer alone. With the door closed, he would turn around to see a figure half in the shadows. At first, it was slumped slightly to the left. Then, a red glow appeared that almost seemed to prop it upright so Liam could stand at his full height and look down at the Actor.

"Are you done running?"

At least the gun wasn't drawn. Yet.
