I’m really glad that so many people are feeling Miles Morales from Into the Spiderverse, and that he’s been introduced and embraced by so many no-comic fans.

But let me just reiterate one thing, real quick. 

Miles Morales was hated when he first appeared.

I’ve been doing rounds on the forums/movie sites/blogs/etc, and I’m already seeing this revisionist BS about how Miles was always embraced by the fandom and people were excited for him.

Online comic book fans, bloggers, etc, wanted Miles gone as quickly as possible, and I’m not about to let the Marvel fandom/comic fans forget that shit just because he’s been introduced to a wider/international audience. 

Yes, Miles is a great character. Yes, Miles is beautifully written, wonderfully acted and animated, and Yes, his movie is going to win him so many fans across the globe. 

But when he was first announced he was despised and people wanted him gone (even before people knew anything about him). 

Let’s not forget about all of that while we’re celebrating Miles Morales, because fandom has a nasty habit of forgetting its own  antiblackness.  

But yes, do carry on loving Miles.
