Does anyone know of payment / donation / money transfer methods that:
do not require the sender’s real name;
e.g. sender can use a username as a display name
e.g. sender can remain anonymous
does not disclose transaction details in receipt
e.g. how a purchase via PayPal might show up as simply a ‘PayPal payment’ on an email receipt
preferably does not require a smartphone, which I believe Venmo does?
I’m asking this with donations to fundraisers in mind as well as transfers between individuals, such as when commissioning art.
PayPal is discreet with receipts but uses my real name, and I’d prefer to use a pseudonym if commissioning someone. It’s less discreet with money transfers than payments, I know, since a family member confronted me when I sent a friend money via PayPal years ago. (Later, I risked sending him money through the post to avoid detection.) Still, if there is a way to use a pseudonym on PayPal that does not involve upgrading to a business account, it would probably be my best option.
Personal anonymity is more relevant to commissions than fundraiser donations, while payment detail discreetness might come more in handy with the latter. Yesterday I asked a family member how they’d feel if I supported a fundraiser in connection to the events in Minneapolis; this question, to put it very mildly, did not go over well. Though context and a misunderstanding over which fundraiser in question was at fault, I’ve been treading lightly on that front.
In my case, I know of some fundraisers to which I hope to donate regardless of when or whether any suggestions are made--i.e. ones with a decent chance of family approval such as Minneapolis’ Local Library Equity Fund--but there surely must be others here who share the same desires (to donate or commission) and same concerns (privacy, even safety).
Reblogs with suggestions are very welcome. I am grateful for any advice; my past searches for such transaction options have never been very fruitful.
