On your D&D asks: My questions three (if the limit is one, go for whichever one you want) 1. What influenced or inspired the creation of this character? 12. How does this character handle stress? 19. What are their guilty pleasures? My apologies if I got this wrong
Good choices! I’d like to answer for my character Atawhai, the Watcher of my current Pillars of Eternity 2 playthrough. I thought about doing it for my old SimRTK character but then I got locked out from the site trying to remember my password. Whoops!
1. What influenced or inspired the creation of this character? The first time I played through Pillars of Eternity, I was going in empty, didn’t know the world or the lore and so that was reflected in the character I created. I just made someone I thought seemed cool, but ultimately it didn’t really feel like they belonged in the world or that events mattered to them--especially by the time we get to the Deadfire in Pillars 2. And so after I played Deadfire for the first time, I had the idea for a completely different character, but one which was firmly rooted in history/world/lore of the PoE world of Eora. The end result of that was Atawhai, a coastal aumaua from Rauatai, a barbarian/chanter with great respect for the gods. I played through the first Pillars with him a while back and it was a really rewarding experience, and I’m enjoying playing through the second game with him at the moment.
12. How does this character handle stress? I imagine Atawhai to be someone who enjoys the company of friends and the inability to share woes and concerns with those closest as a means of letting off steam. Sharing and a meal and laughing with companions would be a surefire way of clearing his head.
19. What are their guilty pleasures? Darkest Rauatai cookies. As much as he is an impressive and perhaps imposing physical specimen, he has a great fondness for sweet foods. These cookies command a high price, and are favoured by wealthy connoisseurs, but even though he is far from being wealthy, that won’t stop him from spending a small fortune just to get his hands on them.
