Don Martin was born on this day in 1931. He began working as a cartoonist for Mad in the mid-‘50s and was a fixture in its pages through 1988. Dubbed “Mad’s Maddest Artist,” Martin had an unmistakable style and a certain genius for sound effects. If you grew up with even a casual interest in Mad you recognize his drawings and sense of humor instantly. After leaving Mad, Martin worked at Cracked for several years. He died of cancer in 2000 at the age of 68.
