Actually with the dropping of Form Changing, it looks like Pokemon Trainer is no-more, Charizard is going solo and Greninja is a Squirtle swap out. It's not a random new introduced character, it's a Mewtwo/Lucario style upgrade. And we're actually coming away with a free slot because of Ivysaur being dropped too. ALSO did you not see the bit with Ridley being hinted at as a Boss/Guest Character on a Wii U Metroid stage? He's there at least. Just... It's not all doom and gloom, surely?
Well no it's not all doom and gloom it's a fun fighting game I am going to buy and 100% am not owed so I've really got no right to complain.
I think just as a creator of things I get confused when creative decisions don't seem to make much sense to me? My criteria for Smash Bros inclusions is that they have to represent a franchise or be a famous and iconic character within a franchise and frog thing doesn't do that for me. The criteria for the creators seems to either be "would that be fun?" or "we need more pokemon"... I'm guessing it's a bit of both.
We just have differing creative ideas and I've known this since Dr. Mario and Pichu. This is nothing new for me.
(And Metroid being present isn't good for me... it was that confirmation of him as a guest that made me sad. He's one of my favourite Nintendo characters and I really think Metroid needs more representation. But there will always be Smash Bros 5 I guess...)
