Look, enough with these unnecessary arguments about this movie. About Ray is a fictional movie for one. This is a story of a transitioning person and what they went through. It’s not a movie about you. People go through many different experiences with these things, don’t expect it to be similar to yours.
There is nothing wrong with this being wrote and played by non-trans people. The point of this movie is to help people become aware of what trans people want, need and feel. Focusing on anything but the story is foolish.
This is different from the Stonewall movie. About Ray is fiction. The Stonewall isn’t. Boycotting the Stonewall made sense for the fact that it altered the history, making the characters cis instead of writing the truth of the many trans, gay, etc, people that were there. This movie is fictional. The main character is ACTUALLY a trans person. Weather the actress is or isn’t has no relevance. The movie tells the story of said persons transition experience profoundly.
But, you know, boycott the only trans movie that accurately depicts the struggles many go through.
