i always knew this would come to pass, and i eagerly await #MYtoxicyaoi2026.

(no but like fr, it was already clear to me from the season 2 finale that daniel published the memoir more-or-less without louis' full approval. so i knew there would be tension. more than that, their dynamic has entered a whole new frontier! daniel's a vampire! vampirism generally makes you worse before it (ever?) makes you better. louis was willing to put daniel in his place when he was a human, so i imagine he tolerates his overall tactlessness even less from an equal.

having said that! i don't think it's danlouover for us at all. yes daniel is being a dick, but he is being a dick over DINNER! THEY'RE HANGING OUT! YEAYUH!!!! and he's being a dick for different, slightly more complicated reasons then when he was being a dick in season 1. i don't think he's deliberately being cruel this time around, but "🥺i didn't mean to exploit your trauma for money 🥺 it's just that nothing will ever matter to me as much as my job and myself 🥺 louis have you read the book it's our book we worked really hard on it 🥺" might just be worse. emotionally speaking. juicy!!!

louis is also terminally indulgent with daniel, WITHOUT all of the trauma-bonding and vampire shit. so really i'm just looking forward to their relationship becoming more rich and complicated. i don't think they'll be "breaking up" as it were. although it would please me to see louis, in his self-care era, just be like. "i don't need this from you. stop calling if you're gonna be like this." unlikely! but it would please me.

there is of course the worry that now that louis's been de-centered in the narrative, he'll become a bit of a punching bag. or that daniel (and lestat or whoever) will be framed as RIGHT to be an asshole to him. but considering how overtly callous and distasteful daniel comes off in the teaser, i am cautiously optimistic about the framing 👍)

may you please enlighten me on what attracts you to romeo and juliet. i fear i do not understand it.

first of all, you are extremely real and othello is my shit. richard iii is the shakespeare play i ACTUALLY queerly over-related to in highschool, but that poll had a very specific line-up (?) and i do really love romeo and juliet. anyway.

i fw romeo and juliet because it’s about senseless violence! the death and misery in the story doesn’t happen for “no reason”, but the causal factors go so far up the chain of culture, generations, and circumstance that’s there’s no way to lay concrete blame. yeah SOME will be pardoned and SOME punished, but the story isn’t about that. there isn’t really a lesson. a bunch of teenagers died. it’s not necessary to add or create more meaning than that. children died, that’s the meaning. i think that’s neat!

i’m also a diehard believer that r&j is “for the kids”. for a tragedy so explicitly about fate, whose two main characters are a sheltered teen and a sheltered tween, both of them persist as agents in the narrative. they make real choices! but they’re not blamed. their deaths aren’t deserved, and the status quo isn’t changed by their sacrifice or restored by their elimination. like i said, it’s senseless. and it’s not their fault.

(it’s more romeo’s fault than juliet’s fault, but we knew that.)

when i first read romeo and juliet i was a freshman in highschool and my sister, a middleschooler at the time, was getting involved in some Bad Shit. it was impactful, for me, to read a story about a thirteen year old girl who was a full human being, with wants and desires, consciously putting her life in danger because, from where she stood in life, that was the best option. and not being told that’s SHE’S wrong. it’s the world, it’s her parents, it’s her shitass boyfriend, and even then. the world, her parents, her shitass boyfriend— they aren’t evil. they’re also trying. good shit!

and it’s just a well written play. comedy? got it. tragedy? got it. dramatic irony? in spades. large cast of fascinating characters, beautiful poetry, melodrama… there’s a reason it’s the second most performed shakespeare play after hamlet! it’s good shit!

i must confess that i unironically like lestat’s music. those concert clips did something to me. mr reid i wasn’t aware you could sing like that 😗which is especially ironic after basically ignoring the album release over the past few months.

i've been a bit of a debbie-downer about tvl's music so far, but it's almost entirely a matter of taste/writing, sam has consistently NAILED his shit. he's an astoundingly powerful vocalist, and the clips just go to show how hard he's been working.

most of the songs that have been actually released haven't really resonated with my personally, i think mostly because i'm just not that invested in the particular style of pop they're going for (and it annoys me that they keep getting described as like. rock n' roll. when they uhh. are objectively not.) but also just because they feel written for tv. and lyrics-in-character are REALLY hard to nail (i've tried to minimal success), especially when you're saving the emotional plot-relevent tracks for when the show actually comes out, but it's still been hard for me to get past.

HOWEVER. i quite liked 'your biggest fan', and 'brutal love' BLEW ME OUT OF THE WATER. it's such an 80s ballad type deal, it got me right in the chest, and daniel-hart-as-lestat's lyricism finally hit for me. it actually really makes me excited for the musical moments in the season proper-- if they play anything of that caliber over My Guys weeping blood i will be happy 😊 a couple of the other unreleased songs, or what i've heard of them, have been validating this hope for me. some of them have a very jesus christ superstar vibe, which is my WHOLE SHIT.
