This is my spidersona! I’m hyped to see Spiderverse and I was inspired by @brakken-spideyverse and his designs. The suit is inspired by the Rose Tarantula.
This is Scarlet Spinner aka Lux Bently. Lux is a textile engineer by trade and they now work in a game shop where they sell custom 3d-printed items alongside various table-top games and accessories.
Origin Story:
After the events of the Earth-616 comic “Ben Reilly: Scarlet Spider #25” wherein Ben loses his mind and Kaine is forced to flee Las Vegas, Lux came into contact with Cassandra Mercury during an job fair at her casino, Mercury Rising. The job fair was attacked by a group of hired thugs donned in banners of white supremacists, a ploy to get the casino shut down by Cassandra’s brother Silas Thorne. When a gun was pulled on Cassandra, Lux dove in without hesitation and ended up taking the bullet themself, saving Cassandra. It was not a fatal blow, however and Lux was admitted to the hospital. Cassandra promised Lux a check for all the trouble they went through just to save her.
The Diogenes Initiative had been keeping an eye still on Cassandra’s casino. One of their spies, Hazael, had witnessed the actions of Lux during the job fair and decided to start up a new experiment, with permission from Gabriel. While Lux was sleeping Hazael let a spider loose into their room. The spider was merely an ironic vessel to deliver the powers necessary for the experiment, but it was a successful vessel nonetheless. It was able to bite Lux and give them the powers of wall-crawling, spider sense, super strength, and rapid healing.
When Lux realized their new-found power it scared them at first. Because of heroes, horrible things had happened all over the world and Las Vegas had been almost completely destroyed twice. Lux was initially uninterested in becoming a web-slinger, but the inspiration to create a new persona, a new life, and new textiles drove them to trying it out. A member of the Web Spinners, a Las Vegas Spider-Man fan club, caught Lux while they were working on a formula for stronger, more versatile webbing.
Lux was introduced to the rest of the gang and was moved by their dedication to do the right thing, even without powers. They told her how one of their members, Friendly Neighborhood, was murdered because of the misinformation given to them by an informant. Lux, being quite a few years older than the rest of them, decided that they needed an adult. Lux ended up becoming that adult and subsequently the leader, helping them develop not only reasonable tech, but also helping them hone their bodies so that they could handle fighting crime. The Web Spinners... still have a long way to go, but Lux is trying to keep them on the straight and narrow. The team even helped come up with the name Scarlet Spinner, both in honor of the team’s name and the two Scarlet Spiders that helped the city before.
Really, only time will tell if Lux and the gang can make good heroes, but they are at least going to try.
