 Today is the age of Property IDs and Unique identifier as Blockchain is wrapping its arms around the real estate business to secure the countless transactions happening every day.   A real estate market without agents, realtors and land registrar offices may seem like a distant dream but countries like Australia have already piloted Blockchain system.

The working:

In a secure Blockchain environment, the database in any land registry system is migrated to the Blockchain and secured. Post this, the system is given a clean definition of the users and the nature of transactions, including the owner, lender and government.

 In Australia, the current land title system is among the world’s best but it is not all that perfect. There still exists a range of hidden taxes and transactions and it decreases the market efficiency. The Blockchain system ensures that such taxes aren’t levied, with the added advantage that the records cannot be tampered with because it is permanent and immutable.

Early stages:

Sweden was the pioneer in bringing Blockchain for real estate in July last year. Swedish Land Registry partnered with ChromaWay to understand and observe how the transacting parties(buyer, seller, government) are able to track the progress on Blockchain. Other countries using Blockchain are The Republic of Georgia, Honduras and Brazil which announced a pilot program to conduct tests.

While the list is just growing, all the countries enrolled for potential long term Blockchain are more significant. With issues like systemic corruption and insecure database management, Blockchain seems to be the best bet for these countries whose economy is growing. There was a time when land buying used to be a formidable process assuring no security of ownership. Blockchain for real estate is the best thing that could happen, bringing along a sense of safety and assurance that the transaction records cannot be tampered with at all. With ever increasing demands for improvements and iterative upgrades, it is not long that Blockchain will control and run the real estate business in an efficient manner, without human interference.
