Hell is a living realm, where every facet of existence is dominated by misery and cruelty, all to sate the endless hunger of the underworld itself. Its dark-hearted denizens often fall victim to the same brutalities they inflict upon their victims, and the Gargoyle is perhaps the most blatant example of this.
Gargoyles originate from a long-forgotten race that fell victim to Hell's infinite advance, finding themselves corrupted into demons. In life they were pacifistic in nature, and even in demonic form they held an aversion towards violence. The infernal realm, of course, was more than happy to punish them for their cowardice.
Finding themselves in a state of being perpetually flayed alive, the normally-docile Gargoyles are driven into a state of feral rage, fueled by their unending agony. Such hatred is what gives them flight and an infamous acid spit capable of melting through steel; the only way to relieve themselves of their pain is to inflict it upon others, and such they pursue this goal with single-minded desperation. They will happily throw themselves to their deaths, all over a fleeting moment of comfort in their tortured existences.
