I know Both/Neither.
So I started reading the new Weekly Shonen Jump series “Ayashimon.” It’s written by Yuji Kaku, the mangaka behind Hell’s Paradise.
It’s a pretty fun take on an urban fantasy series with yokai-like gang warfare. The protagonist is Maruo Kaido who is super humanly strong and wants to be a manga protagonist and teaming up Urara, an Ayashimon starting up her own yakuza gang.
So far it’s only six chapters and and real easy to jump into. The art and action is also really good with a lot of personality to it.
The character designs are also really cool.
There’s a lot of fun world building like Ayashimon being born from money, the government having an Onmyo Bureau, and how there are humans with super natural strength that have filled the role of heroes over time. So far, it’s really solid.
If you like urban fantasy series, yakuza series, or have seen Hell’s Paradise and want to check out more of Kaku’s work, or even if you’re someone looking for a shonen series with a darker edge to it like Jujutsu Kaisen or Dead Mount Death Play, give it a read.
