Phil's neighbors are hunting down a mutant... only for it to turn out the mutant they are hunting is a little girl that his kids have been keeping safe and feeding... and suddenly all of Phil's prejudices come melting down around him as he looks at this poor little girl and remembers what he saw in the concentration camps of Germany...
When Phil awakens, the first thing he learns is that he lost one of his eyes in the injury. It doesn't stop him or pull him down, however, and the first thing he does is propose to Doris.
The exact same day as the wedding of Reed and Sue, Sentinels storm Manhattan looking for mutants... and the first thing Phil thinks of his wife and kids, and little Maggie back at home all alone. When he gets there, however, he finds his family all right, except for Maggie who slipped out in the chaos... leaving only a note.
Some early WW2 stuff with Namor and Torch teaming up to take down some Axis soldiers.
Also Doris mentioned there is a the girl Phil is crazy for, and she is on a date here with Willie Lumpkin.
The two are wed, but before they can really even celebrate, Phil heads to the warfront working with the press... and we get another great spread by Ross featuring a ton of golden oldies. First up Cap and Bucky, then there is Namor. The guy in christmas colors is the original Vision. Skully with the machine guy is Destroyer. The lady is the original Black Widow. The guy in the hood top right is I believe the Thunderer? But don't quote me on that one. Blazing skull is the one with... the blazing skull. Bottom right is Black Marvel, I think. and then last but not least we have the Human Torch and Toro.
