I am a four year survivor!🥂🍾🎉 The Luna Chick painting and I are here to remind you to do a self-breast exam during the full moon, March 9th. The photo of me is from October 11, 2015. I HAD CANCER WHEN THIS PICTURE WAS TAKEN AND DID NOT KNOW IT YET! I didn’t look or feel sick, but I knew I’d found a strange shaped sharp rock in my left breast a couple of months before, July 2015, when I’d performed a self-breast exam. At first, it was undetectable in the two ultrasounds and mammogram (my first - I was age 48) and was advised by my breast cancer specialist doctor to see if it “grew or changed”. By the time I went to my follow-up appointment, six months later, with the doctor in January of 2016, it had grown... SOFTER. I could no longer find it with a self exam, but now Dr. Bunting could see it on a mammogram. Early detection and finding that sharp rock before it plumped up SAVED MY LIFE! My tumor growth rate was a whopping 60% and 20 is considered high! So, It’s that time again. It’s a great day to be grateful! This memory just came up on Facebook today. So happy to be over 3 years cancer free now! I’m so grateful I everyone who helped get me through the tough stuff! Being laid off and losing my job a week after my diagnosis was devastating. Two surgeries, 33 radiation treatments, and a pill a day reminds me of how lucky I am. Please keep doing self-breast exams.
