This is "The adventures of Dotty and Donny (Dot project)" by Doodleground on Vimeo, the home for high quality videos and the people who love them.
For our first project we had to animate a dot with character to show emotions.
Thus, I chose a range of emotions for this little story, my favourite one being the anger that comes with embarrassment...(Poor Donny just wanted to have a laugh).
The Dot Brief
BA Animation Year 2
Project 1: Character
Brief 1: Dot - “Communicate emotion effectively by using movement (rather than facial expression and design, for example). The dot character has to represent the emotion in the film.”
I started with the idea that I’d like my dot to want to be part of a social group but being pushed around and ignored and then moving to a depressed and angry state.
Part 1 - The Dot rolls in while the bigger ones are socializing with each other.
Revisited and improved dot project!
After listening to the feedback I extended the animation to include the second dot showing a different emotion.Everyone wanted to see a sad dot so a sad dot I made 💧
The dot project!
I listened to holy diver by Dio whilst animating this
Short version of the first dot project animation I had done with ending. For the ending I decided to create a loop and make a portal that teleported the dot back to the beggining. With this animation I wanted to show the emotions of confusion and being lost.
Dots final
The Dot Brief - Final
Brief 1: Dot - “Communicate emotion effectively by using movement (rather than facial expression and design, for example). The dot character has to represent the emotion in the film.”
I started with the idea that I’d like my dot to want to be part of a social group but being pushed around and ignored and then moving to a depressed and angry state.
Part 1 - The Dot rolls in while the bigger ones are socializing with each other.
Part 2 - After The Dot rolling into the frame and observing the bigger ones interract it’s attempting to communicate like the others, attracting their attention.
Part 3 - Once their attention is on it, it attempts communicating more but the bigger once don’t care so one of them kicks him away.
Part 4 - After pushing the dot away it gets sad, depressed and angry, filling up the void with black, breathing heavily and growing bigger ready to get some revenge.
End - The Dot smashes the colourful dots that coninued their discussion after they kicked him away.
