exciting news!
Okay, first of all a January flamenco update..
Although I was still under the weather I decided that I wouldn't miss out on Israel Galvan's FLA.CO.MEN show in Madrid. So I went, but I was left with mixed feelings.. I absolutely love his creativity and contemporary spin on flamenco (plus his profile always makes me think of Hans Christian Andersen haha!) but I wasn't really feeling this show. Some of the elements were amazing, whilst others were simply overdone or, on the contrary, quite boring. It pains me to write this critique but this is honestly how I felt. Most of these feelings were shared by my friends with whom I went to the show. I don't know what to say.. It just felt like he played on the 'being different' card too much, instead of focusing on creating art. But then again art is so subjective and from what I witnessed in the audience, Im positive a lot of people will disagree with my critique. Nevertheless it was a great experience to see him live! I will always have respect and fascination for Mr Galvan, and I will definitely want to see another show with him.
Last weekend I went to my beloved Sevilla, again again, to support my beautiful and talented fellow scandinavian flamenco dancing friend Ingrid. She had her first solo performance in Seville and asked me to be palmera. I was indeed honored and didn't think twice about it. The evening went great and Im so proud of her - and of the other first time solo flamenco dancers that shared the stage that evening. I did a pataita por fiesta and to my surprise that led to an opportunity for me to perform in Seville! Sooo, Im so excited to share this with you. I will have my debut on stage in Sevilla this Spring!! Of course I will keep you posted when I know more details.
Look at Ingrid.. So beautiful! La Flamenca Noruega!!
Other great news - In February I will join the amazing DotDotDot Flamenco company on tour in England. If you don't know who they are, you can find them here. The flamenco company consists of three BEAUTIFUL dancers - my lovely friends Yinka Graves, Magdalena Mannion and Noemi Luz - with Liam Howarth on guitar, Ana Colom on cante and Franco Bianco on percussion. A very powerful trio of musicians!
BEFORE YOU GO ALL CRAZY let me just inform you that I won't be dancing with them. I have a very different role in this company. I will be the road manager, the stage manager, the octopus or basically 'just' the bitch who gets the job done haha!! And Im very excited about that. They have given me an amazing opportunity to learn more about the 'backstage' of big flamenco productions and I cant wait to get started. I am now officially a mini DOT!
We will be in England from the 11th of February - 1st of March. So check out the dates and places for workshops and shows. I promise you, you won't regret it! Also, to my friends and family in the London area I would LOVE to see you, if only for a coffee!

Workshop dates.
Also, last but not least(!) I will be coming 'home' for Easter to perform in the peña flamenca de Copenhague EL DUENDE with some of Denmark's finest flamenco artists, Pepita Rohde and Andrée Petersen on the 4th of April!! Im so happy I get to come back and share my love for flamenco with my fellow danish aficionados. And I hope to see a lot of you there.. I will also be teaching three workshops during the Easter Holiday break. One intermediate/advanced class, one masterclass and a special one-day-intensive flamenco fusion class. I will keep you posted, and as soon as the flyers are made you'll be the first to know!
Thats all for now!
Besos y Abrazos
