I had a discussion with a friend about what to put on my nails for ANZAC Day (a bunch of my extended family is coming over tomorrow evening - we’re all going to the sunset service at Blackboy Hill - a 5 minute walk from my house, and where soldiers from Western Australia trained in WWI - one was my great-great uncle who was killed in the Battle of Paschendaele) - all of our ideas were decidedly tasteless.
Then a couple of night ago, in the shower (I get my best inspiration in the shower), it came to me - poppies!
I looked up nail art with poppies and found a few lovely realistic looking designs, but the “tutorial” video was more “hey I filmed myself doing this and I just put music over it, so of course when you try it your results will not resemble mine at all”. I had an experiment with different brushes and techniques and whether I’d use polish or acrylic paint. Of course, the realistic looking designs were not going to work, so I went for easy peasy blobby poppies done with a dotting tool. From my experimenting I DID discover that if I put the black centre in while the red polish is still wet, I get a slight bleeding effect, which is more like a real poppy.
