@double-knots said: "Soooo, Candance." Beck states, legs slightly and trying to act as if this conversation was completely casual. It wasn't. "I just---I mean---....Do you think I can try on one of your old dresses? Or maybe a skirt or--" Beck pauses, hands fiddling with the pair of basketball shorts they wore. "Or is that weird? Would that be weird?"
Candace may not be the best at reading social cues, but she can read this for what it is. Trans people stuff. Trans girl bonding. So, of course, she smiles too wide and starts rooting through the back of her closet.
"What? That's not weird, like, at all! Just let me find something! I didn't start wearing lots of dresses myself until I was, what, maybe nine or ten? So I toooootally know what you're going through."
Hopefully the signal will be received- I'm trans, too. I've got your back, sister.
"I mean, it's so super weird at first, trying to find things that fit, and deciding whether you wanna wear shorts under, and getting used to the 'is this so awesome because it's new or do I actually super love it' and everything! Uh, here! Try this!"
She pulls a few things out, silently thanking her lucky stars that she held onto this stuff. Three simple dresses, one teal, one coral, and one a mossy green, all of them approximately Beck's size. And all of them traded to her by Jeremy, back when they both started their transitions in grade school.
Candace had planned on keeping these forever- after all, they were some of the first gifts Jeremy had ever given her, even if they were just a swap with her old button downs and beanies- but this feels like the right thing to do. They don't fit Candace anymore, and there's something really nice about giving some of her first dresses to a girl in the same position that she was in when she received them.
"If those fit, you can totally hold onto them! Just, uh... if they don't fit, or you think you won't wear them, give them back, okay? They are kinda special."
