pet peeve in mysteries (adventure/sci-fi mysteries in particular) where the antagonist uses ‘intellectual advancement’ or ‘proper education’ as a way to dunk on basically everyone else and/or justify violence. loses even more points if the narrative treats it like ‘oh are they right? are “Ordinary People” Bad for being less intelligent than I?’ could it be, just maybe, Fancyknives Zeroethics Jr., your ego is the only thing “greater-than-average” here
best exception is when the narrative finds a way to beat this with the power of ‘you’re undervaluing certain skills and attributes that are going to take you down’ or ‘a better constructed argument that proves you’re just being a jerk’
