For the past two decades, Douglas Witmer has steadily pursued a personal abstraction across several varied bodies of work, all of it centered upon material, color-driven visual experience resulting from direct, economical and conscious actions. The exhibition "fourpart" will be dominated by a four-panel painting made with the Tiger Strikes Asteroid space in mind, extending his interest in the connection between the painted image and its exhibited environment. Past projects in this vein were his 2009 project for the Philadelphia Cathedral and a recent suite of paintings exhibited at the Alumni Gallery of The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts earlier this year. "fourpart" is the artist's first solo show with the gallery and his largest work to date.
