Out and About: Downbeat Diner
Mr. and I work in Downtown and there are quite a bit of restaurants and cafes. However, since changing to our vegan lifestyle, our selection has been significantly reduced. So when Vegan Brent suggested we go to Downbeat Diner and Lounge for lunch, I was excited!
Mr. and I had been to DD for lunch BV (Before Vegan) and enjoyed it. Since it was BV, we didn't pay attention to their vegan selections. I was happily surprised to hear they offered some.
Their menu has the usual fare of burgers, sandwiches and even breakfast foods. The great thing is that most of their offerings can be veganized.
For my lunch with Vegan Brent, I opted for the teriyaki burger which came with caramelized onions, mushrooms and "cheese."
It was really tasty and a little too juicy that I had to eventually eat it with a fork.
The following week, I brought Mr. there because I wanted him to try it. He had the teriyaki burger while I opted for the Western burger (with BBQ sauce and "bacon").
It was also very good and not that messy. Very filling too!
So, if you're ever in the Downtown or Chinatown area, we recommend Downbeat Diner and Lounge on Hotel Street (across of Bar 35 and between Manifest and Lucky Belly).
