hi, i was just wondering if there is a train that runs from burlington up to maine
I am thinking about visiting friends there in the summer and don't want to drive (gas money, eck).
It is possible to get from Burlington to Maine, but you need to transfer in New York and Boston. The route would be: Ethan Allen Express to NYC then Northeast Regional to Boston then take the T (Boston Metro) from the South Station to North Station where you can take the Downeastern to Portland Maine
The state of Maine is continuing to work on the extension of the Downeastern to Bangor
Proposal call to connect Lewiston, Auburn, Waterville and Bangor to Portland
I got the gift of train!
Oh, the downeastern, that's exciting, I hope you enjoy Maine
downeaster (northeast) corridor (boston mass to brunswick maine) is currently washed out :D the trains cannot come home to maine at this time and the tracks need to be repaired before they can heehee
That is not good, we should fix that as soon as possible.
NNEPRA has a page of projects they're working on in the Downeaster corridor and up into the rest of Maine - In particular, one that's caught my eye is a proposal for a few passenger runs a day between Brunswick and Rockland, timed to make connections with the Downeaster. There's a bus leaving from the Portland and Bangor stations that makes ten or so stops up and down the coast once a day, with connections to and from Boston on the bus (and, as the both have stops at the Portland Transportation Center and the Brunswick station, the Downeaster as a whole) and I know it gets particularly busy during the summer, so the proposed route has caught my eye - Apparently they're planning to do limited schedules this summer and fall for testing purposes. What are your thoughts? Personally, I'd love if they could stretch it just a little further north up to Camden/Rockport, maybe even to Lincolnville, as the former is one of the busier bus pickup/dropoff points, but either way additional service up the mid coast would be massively helpful for accessibility purposes, especially during tourist season.
I think buses are cool and running buses alongside the downeastern could really improve the route, especially after they lengthen it to Bangor
just msging to tell you I’m about to embark on the downeaster ily amtrak <3
I hope you have fun going to Maine.
Are the menus consistent enough to do a cafe car bracket? I was disappointed by the cheeseburger but surprisingly pleased by the vegan tamale last week.
They are not consistent between trains, here are 3 menus for different trains, the Northeast Regional, the Downeastern and the Missouri River Runner. As you can see the Entrees vary between the lines
