7 weeks

Almost 5 years to the day that I started my job, I’ll be losing it.  We had a big company-wide conference call a few weeks ago and the president/CEO announced that basically everyone’s positions will be going away as of January 1st, 2018.

This was a surprise but, honestly, not a huge one.  When I first started my job there were about 40 employees which over the years dwindled down to the 10 people there are today.  So with the company dropping most of the bigger accounts and shrinking even more to a bare-bones 4 people, it’s been a long time coming.  With the economy and people just not buying luxury goods PLUS the hurricanes making business in the Caribbean grind to a halt, money hasn’t been rolling in as usual.  

I have 7 weeks of employment and pay checks and insurance coverage left before I am a destitute, jobless bum, wallowing in the cow fields of eastern Tennessee.  

And strangely enough, I’m not freaking out about it.  I know that there are almost ZERO job opportunities where I live so I’m going to have to see if I can find something that will allow me to work remotely until I can move. PLUS - I moved in with Prime last month so at least rent and bills really won’t be a problem and there will be a tiny bit of a pillow financially until I can find something. 

But still.  It sucks.
