Inktober 2022 - Day 1 - Gargoyle
IT BEGINS. Yes, day one of Inktober is here! As per usual, I shall burn myself out by doing too much for each prompt, but I live for the challenge. I plan to once again do a grinning worm bonus for each prompt (the self-inflicted pain)! So look out for that.
I'm also still doing inktober 52. Which has different prompts (it's 'time' this week on top of the dailies...yikes.)
Here we have constable Downspout for the discworld novels.
"Downspout never quite fitted in. It wasn't that he didn't get on with people, because he hardly ever met people, except those whose activities took them above, say, second–floor level. Constable Downspout's beat was the rooftops. Very slowly. He'd come down for the Watch's Hogswatch party and had poured gravy in his ears to show Willing, but gargoyles got very nervy indoors at ground level, and he had soon exited via the chimney and his paper squeaker had echoed out forlornly amongst the snowy rooftops all night. But gargoyles were good at watching, and good at remembering, and very, very good at being patient."
I based his design off my own snow-globe with a Gargoyle in it:

Watch Sketches by me
I don’t really post things I draw so we’ll see how this goes
And whether or not it blows up in my face
Cheery Littlebottom, Visit-The-Infidel-With-Explanatory-Pamphlets, Downspout, Dorfl
I finally scanned my Discworld Inktober drawings from last year, because I’m getting them printed into a zine! Characters #13-16 were all characters featured for the first time in Feet of Clay, which is one of my particular favourites amongst the Watch books. Trans themes and robot themes are dear to my heart, even (perhaps especially) in allegory form, and I’m deeply fond of both Cheery and Detritus. Fun fact: I threw in a few subtle Robocop references when I drew Dorfl, because the line “Undead Or Alive, You Are Coming With Me” cracks me up every time.
Check out the Kickstarter for the zine [here]!
(The Kickstarter has been successfully funded! If you’re interested in getting a copy of the zine for yourself, the project page now essentially allows you to pre-order it, plus some fun extras if future stretch goals are unlocked...)
