It has been over two years since I last posted a shot in this #plus15 walkway towards my office, and it’s not the only thing that has changed a LOT. This walkway was closed recently closed for a long overdue update, and like a lot of things lately - developers are taking advantage and of less people in the downtown core to get shit done. And it was so worth it. This is one of my favourite parts of the +15 walkways, the light is amazing at all times of the day. It’s still really weird coming to the office after almost 2 years of not, these small little familiar things are somewhat comforting while we are still trying to see what’s around the corner - while hoping it’s the finally the last corner. Still a ways off I think. At the time, this was unheard of in the morning rush hour. An empty train (or mostly empty that morning), which made my personal bubble extremely happy. It’s weird to think of now, social distancing is second nature to me, and I will practice it to the full extent especially now. However, I am still starting to miss the normal. The every day normal. Being able to go anywhere, freely, without worry of catching something. And we will get there again, albeit with a few changes for sure. But in the meantime, I will stay home. For all the essential people, all the nurses, doctors, emergency services, grocery clerks, truckers, janitors - all of them! I will stay home to flatten the curve and not put a strain on the system. I may not escape it completely, but I can do my part to ease the load. And if you see anyone those people, thank them. Thank them fully for keeping our normal, running as close to normal as they can. They deserve our utmost gratitude and respect!!! While it may be a brisk -30 degrees out (and by brisk I actually mean ‘why do I live where the air hurts my face’ cold!!), it does make for some pretty pictures with the heat from all the buildings. The ‘Brotherhood of Mankind’ sculptures in the east side of downtown. Some know these as ‘The Family of Man’. Such a controversy when they were first installed in 1968, now we couldn’t imagine Calgary without them. I can see them from my office window, a birds eye view, and I still find them to be an equal mix of beautiful and creepy. They just don’t make building entrances like this very often now. A lovely little mosaic entrance of the Odd Fellows Hall built in 1912.
