Trolling is a common scene displayed on any social medium platform. Because trolling is so common, many people don’t necessarily take trolling and its effects too seriously. This is a mistake as trolling ranges from simple pranks to online harassment and even to physical threats. In our common day and age the internet has allowed people to hide behind a computer screen and even post anonymously or under an alias thus increasing the likelihood of such vulgar and negative comments (since the identity of the one making these posts is hidden). When we refer to “trolls”, we usually think of an outside entity that doesn’t include ourselves into the equation. This paradigm, however, is false as anybody can be considered a troll. Trolling is a product of conversation context and mood (usually a foul one) that can lead one to comment negatively or even threaten or toy with others for their own amusement. Trolling should be held to a higher regard and noted as a serious threat as it produces an unsafe atmosphere and can truly hurt people even though it’s labeled as “just a joke”.
