BACKGROUND. suicide tw.
maddox was born & raised in denver, colorado and didn’t have very easy beginnings. with a father never in the picture, maddox grew up with his older brother idris & watched their mom struggle to keep their house above water. he was still young and didn’t completely understand what was going on, but he was always the bright, optimistic light of the family. be in bringing in flowers he picked for the table, or just offering a smile when he was his mom down, a young maddox always tried to keep spirits up.
as a young boy, dox found peace in music. they didn’t have much money, but doing small things for neighbors and friends led dox to save up enough money for his first guitar. it was small and cheap with constantly breaking strings, but it was a start. he would practice for hours on hours, finding comfort in hearing the sound of the guitar in his room.
as he grew, dox’s positivity only spread more, and with his brothers football success, he wondered if things would actually be looking up for the henderson family. he wanted to find his own thing like idris did, and he wondered if this meant he’d be able to study music and not have to worry. however, dox’s mother couldn’t take the burden of life anymore, and decided to take her own life. crushed and broken, maddox knew that he needed to push through this for his own sake, and for his brothers.
he kept his head high and pushed through his mom’s death - he was just entering his teens and had mountains of strength and positivity built up to become a rock for his family. he wanted to feel helpful, despite being so young, so he urged his older brother to keep working toward his dream.
after four years and mulling through life and trying his best to get through high school all while making sure his older brother was doing okay, dox managed to keep his head high & his dreams open. however, he didn’t know what he wanted to do. he never really thought about it. music had been put on the back-burner, though he still played guitar and had some confidence that his singing voice was decent. he didn’t think of that as something that was obtainable, but he was so focused on getting through school he had never thought about college.
as his older brothers career his a high, dox never expected much from idris other then a place to live and food on his plate, for his eighteenth birthday he requested a higher-quality guitar - his first fender.
from there, dox worked as a waiter & focused on improving his music. he wanted to get into playing small gigs, but ended up working full time at a local diner. he didn’t need to work, as his brothers fame easily funded him, but he wanted to. as a young boy, he watched his mom work and struggle, and he didn’t want that.
dox often wondered if he should go to college, and he considered it, but he still felt lost and unsure of what he wanted in life. the only thing he felt passionate about was music, and he didn’t know how or where to start in making that a career. eventually, he started to play in local bars and got a small name made for himself, and decided to make a youtube channel dedicated to posting his covers and original songs.
with a small reputation building, dox finally felt like he was beginning to get somewhere. and then, at the head of everything, his brother begins to struggle and dox, being himself, wouldn’t just sit around and watch him suffer.
his brother had decided to leave town, heading for the small town of jericho. he wasn’t sure why -- but dox packed everything back up and decided to follow him. he could just call -- check in. but he didn’t feel like that was enough and he thought maybe, this small town had something for him too.
PERSONALITY.
dox is ... sunshine personified. like, if a hug was a person ?? dox.
he’s not naive - he’s got a good head on his shoulders and is hyper-aware of a lot of things, but he’s very open-minded and positive. he tries to see the best in any situation and always urges people to be their best selves no matter what. he’s been through a lot in his life & came out completely positive.
he comes off as a little fickle - he has a hard time deciding what he wants for himself. he’s great at giving advice but very seldom takes it. he doesn’t know what he wants. the boy can’t even pick what he wants for dinner half the time so he always ends up eating ramen.
generally just a good guy. he loves using his music to make people smile and loves playing silly lil tunes just to get a lot.
HIGHKEY ROMANTIC but i feel like he’s never actually been in a successful relationship , but he’s definitely not a player either. some flings have occurred but he’s never really been fully committed to anyone.
he literally just got to jericho and he is super friendly & makes friends easily.
fun fact, he’s a terrible cook. he tries. he eats a lot of ramen. and noodles in general. he’s a hot mess but he’s cute so , u know.
