The Doyens:

The Banister is run by several chosen leaders referred to as the doyens. There is a doyen for every species of Elder, as well as one for guilts. For elves, as red-eyes and blue-eyes vary considerably in skill, there are two doyens.

Out of these doyens, one person stands as the reigning leader of the Banister. They are chosen by the people of the Banister and hold their position until they either give up the title, die, the position is revoked, or they are unable to fulfill their duties.

Doyens oversee all decisions and issues pertaining to the people and creatures under their charge. In addition, some doyens may oversee larger organizations and systems within the Banister.

The leader of the Banister must fulfill all duties a regular doyen would, but also makes all decisions for the Banister at large. Any choices that would affect the Banister as a whole, or a large majority of its citizens, falls on the leader’s word. The primary leader refers to the doyens as their council, discussing all major decisions before anything is made absolute.

The current leader of the Banister is Polleo Merula, an avian.
