Mel settled down her last two boxes on the floor “And that’s it!” she cleaned her hands, full of dust, as she watched her boyfriend inspecting her boxes. “Just that?!” he asked with an arched eyebrow. “I thought girls had tons of stuff.” He motioned to her five boxes. “Well, most of my clothes are already here, so… that means minus one box and I didn’t think it was necessary to bring kitchen stuff since you already have everything here. I only brought baking stuff.” She smiled at him “But… still yo-“she interrupted him with a kiss “And you call yourself my boyfriend” she whispered against his lips. Mittens, the stray black cat that Mel adopted, climbed on top of the boxes and accidentally made one fall down. When Mel heard the glass breaking, she immediately broke connection with her boyfriend. “Mittens!” she took her shoe off and threw it in the direction of the black cat but missed it of course. Melody kneeled in front of the box and saw broken glass all over the floor.
She sighed and carefully brushed the glass away. “Careful. We both know how clumsy you are.” She glared back at him and stuck her tongue out. He chuckled and wandered off to get a broom. Mel looked at the glass and had a brilliant idea for a prank. While her boyfriend was away, she walked to the fridge and took the ketchup out. She dumped it all over the floor and on her hand; Mel hid the bottle in one of the boxes and prepared for the prank. “Ow! OW! OW! FUCK!” she cried. He heard the footsteps coming closer and in no time, her boyfriend was kneeling down beside her. “I told you to be careful, Mel.” He sighed and grabbed her hand to examine her “wound.” He frowned “What’s that smell?” He looked at Mel worried but at the same time confused. Mel bit her lower lip to keep her from smiling “Ketchup!” she giggled as she rubbed the ketchup all over his face. He glared at her for a second but then he showed his devilish grin “Careful, the bear is going to get’cha” he opened his arms and scooped her from the ground and threw her into the bed.

Melody sat on the couch in front of the TV with a glass of wine on her left hand and a waiting to be frosted cake on her kitchen counter. There was going on some discussion about how the stock market went down. Melody watched the people ramble about numbers and how this was a disaster, it was safe to say that she didn’t understand a thing they were saying. Melody took a sip of her red wine, which was the benefit of being an adult, she could drink alcohol legally at three in the afternoon, and no one would judge her. She glanced around in the empty apartment and she caught a glimpse of the photos displayed all over the wall.
She could recognize some from afar: When she threw a huge birthday party at the beach, her younger self and Steele with bunny hears and Juneau (Mel’s favorite dog in the whole world) with them too, her failed attempt of a three layer cake in baking school, she and Tink in a random school dance looking perfect (you could see Ozzy and Barrel waiting for them to finish taking the picture in the background), Her old pets, Leonardo and Raphael, were also in the mix of pictures. Some postcards from all over the world -mostly from Bianca: some from her own trips and others that her friends sent her. She could also recognize some more recent ones: She and Steele’s daughter decorating a cake, Mel at a wedding (that she couldn’t recognize which one was it), she at the opening of her bakery, and a small picture of her cat when she still was a little fur ball.
Melody switched channels and a game showed up, she looked at the teams and could see that it was Steele’s team unfortunately she didn’t had the opportunity to watch the whole game but she could see that he won. Melody had to call him and congratulate him on the win. The black cat slept peacefully by her side, she switched channels again and the news appeared. “Breaking news…” the man started, she turned the volume up a bit. “ A plane crashed on the ground …” Melody stopped hearing what the man was saying she could only stare at the images they were showing of the crash. She wiped the tear that was streaming down her face, turned off the TV, and decided it was best to focus on the cake she was working on and forget everything.

She had moved in with her boyfriend in exactly two months now. She was happy, he made her feel complete. She was mixing the flour with the rest of the batter for the pancakes she was making for breakfast while chatting with Tink on the phone. Everything was going great until Mel started to feel extremely sick “I’m not feeling very well Tink, I have to go.” She could hear the blonde ask ‘What?’ before Melody abruptly hung up. She ran towards the bathroom and threw up. She sat on the floor of the bathroom; she heard her phone in the kitchen. Melody got up and went back to answer it, it was her best friend calling “I’m sorry Tink.” She apologized between sips of water. “It’s alright. What happened?” the other girl asked. “I don’t know… everything was fine and then I just felt sick and ran to the bathroom.” It took a few seconds for the girl in the other side of the phone to reply, “Don’t kill me for asking this, but how long it was been since your last period?” Melody knew what she meant with that question. She flipped the papers on her agenda and she was almost a month late. ”Uhoh.” That was all that Melody could say. “Melody, you listen to me. Go down to a store a buy a pregnancy test! Call me when you get back home.” the blonde demanded. ”Yes, Captain. I mean, Tink.” She giggled. Luckily, the pharmacy was just around the corner so she was back home quickly. Like she promised to her friend, she called her immediately. “So I just pee to the stick?” Mel asked nervous. “You just pee to the stick.” Tink reassured her. Mel continued chatting with her friend while she waited for the result. It was terrifying she wasn’t ready for any of the results. “I the time’s up, Mel.” Mel could tell that her friend was just as anxious as she was. “Okay” she sighed and closed her eyes, grabbed the test and slowly opened one eye and caught a glimpse of the result. “Oh. My. God” Melody said “What? Is it yes or is it no?” Tink squealed on Mel’s hear.
Mel spent the rest of the day making lasagna for dinner and a special cake for dessert. When they were both done eating, she looked at him and smiled widely. “I have a little surprise for you.” she announced as she walked towards the fridge. “Close your eyes.” She demanded before taking the cake to the table and surprisingly he obeyed. She settled the tiny cake, with purple and blue stripes and a pacifier on top made out of fondant. “You can open now.” She told him and he did. At first, he didn’t understood what was going on but then it suddenly hit him. ”Are you serious?” he got up from his seat and held Mel’s hand, she nodded with a huge smile ”Yes! I’m pregnant!” He chuckled “You’re pregnant!” he said with a huge smile on his face. “Mel that wonderful!” he wrapped his arms around her and spun her around a couple times. When her feet reached solid ground, she looked at him “I love you so much.” And sealed everything with a kiss.
